Our Story
UBC BEST (Biomedical Engineering Student Team) is a new UBC Engineering student team that focuses on the design of biomedical engineering applications. Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary field, and this team provides students from a variety of Engineering departments, Science, Business, Medicine, Arts and Kinesioloy with the exciting opportunity of collaborating on meaningful projects.
Our main mission is to develop context appropriate solutions to medical challenges worldwide. This not only includes identifying the needs and developing physical devices, but it also encompasses promoting the entrepreneurial aspects of developing a successful technology. We strive to not only create feasible prototypes, but to gain knowledge and networks within the Vancouver (and global) biomedical engineering industry.
In early 2015, four of our members went on a fully funded fact-finding mission to Kenya and Uganda, starting two projects that have inspired numerous others.
