Tip: melt beeswax in the pot, then hold your manual kistka inside the hot pot for 30-60 seconds to make sure your kistka gets to the same temperature as the wax for nice juicy wax lines! I've had the pleasure of connecting with wonderful individuals through Ukrainian EggCessories. Just a month ago, a customer visited to gather supplies for their family and mentioned that her husband, Richard, had recently filmed and edited an interview about pysanka eggs. To my surprise, the person they interviewed was - Karen Hanlon!

A few days back, our UE customer Mary Rose shared a link to the interview that aired on Salt + Light, and I must say, Karen did an incredible job! Karen has been a regular instructor at our Ukrainian EggCessories retreats and it turns out she's even teaching a full university class on pysanky. How amazing is that?

Ukrainian EggCessories pysanky tip #19: Navigating the meticulous process of writing pysanky can sometimes require undoing parts of your work, especially if you use lots of pencil lines for your preliminary sketches on the undyed eggshell. Most of the time these lines can be washed off before your first dye or they’ll come off when you melt the wax off at the end - but if you find you need to erase some lines you can carefully use this technique.

Gently use a white polymer eraser or a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol for removing excess sketch lines without harshly scrubbing the shell, which could affect dye absorption later on. It’s a careful balance between maintaining the eggshell’s integrity and preparing it for a vivid display of colours.

Additionally, immersing the egg in vinegar before dipping in the first dye ensures an even and uniform colour uptake across the entire surface, setting the stage for a beautifully finished pysanky.

Flower of the Magic Fern Medicine Set is a classic 78-card tarot deck created by Tania Andrushko from Edmonton, Alberta Canada.

The structure is identical to the classic tarot deck, with both Major and Minor Arcanas. Major Arcana is often complex and significant, with 22 cards to reveal the major life events and energies that are influencing what is happening now. Minor Arcana is presented through four elements - Air, Water, Fire and Earth with fourteen cards in each - Page to Ace. The role of each element is very specific, and as they have their own directions on the medicine wheel representing: Intellect, Emotions, Actions and Manifestation in the Material World.

This is Ukrainian Tarot 78-card deck. It is the first of its kind. A creation of the heart that shares the Classic Tarot cards expressed through the magic and vibrancy of Ukrainian culture, traditions, and Ukrainian ancestry.

If you make a dye wash with the Viking Violet dye you’ll get a softer violet. Add two tablespoons of already prepared dye plus 1 Tablespoon of vinegar to 1 cup of previously boiled or distilled water to get this beautiful lighter shade.

If you look closely at the photo - the two top left eggs are unvarnished and the two bottom right eggs are what this dye looks like varnished.
