Volunteer Opportunity: Eastern Shelburne County Accessibility Advisory Committee

Are you looking to make a difference in your community? Why not consider serving as a volunteer member of the Eastern Shelburne County Accessibility Advisory Committee?

Right now some Committee members terms have ended and we are looking for new Committee members from the Municipality of the District of Shelburne and the Town of Lockeport.

What is the Eastern Shelburne County Accessibility Advisory Committee?

The Eastern Shelburne County Accessibility Advisory Committee (Town of Shelburne, Town of Lockeport and Municipality of the District of Shelburne) provides advice to the three councils on identifying, preventing and eliminating barriers for people with disabilities in accessing all municipal goods, services and information.

The Committee plays an important role in ensuring the obligations under the Nova Scotia Accessibility Act (2017) are met.
Note: At least one half of the members of the advisory committee must have a disability or represent an organization that represents people with disabilities.

The application period is April 8th to May 27th, 2024.

We are still under mandatory evacuation due to the Barrington Lake fire.
I miss my home and I miss my clients, and I will be contacting anyone who I need to reschedule when I have a timeline for when I can reopen.

For now we are safe and happy to have such an amazing community that pulls together to support people in their time of need.

My heart is broken for my community. I have no news to share about the status of any homes in the area, as the situation is ongoing.
I wish I had of had this list while packing. It was hard to think straight, but I had more than 24hrs notice that we would probably have to leave, and still I forgot things, and some things I brought seem laughable.

I know people are desperate to help. Reach out to a volunteer Center and ask for what they need, you can also purchase 50/50 tickets from the Nova Scotia Firefighters Draw. The money from that organization has made a huge difference in what our volunteer firefighters are able to have for equipment.

I will continue to wear a mask during all services, and ask that my clients wear masks as well.
If you are having a service that the mask needs to be removed, I ask that you wear a mask until seated.
I will have masks available at the door if you happen to forget yours.
