Why is a make up air system important? What is negative pressure in your home and why is it important to avoid?
Negative air pressure is created when too much air leaves the home by the use of ranges, fans etc.
Negative pressure can result in;
1. an inability of the other HVAC systems in your home functioning efficiently
2. back drafting (cold air seeping in) through other mechanical venting outlets like fireplaces and range hoods which can also expose you to harmful combustion biproducts like smoke and carbon monoxide
3. back drafting from drains can expose the home to unpleasant and harmful smells of sewer gas
A make up air system brings air back into the home to equalize the air pressure.

1. Check your thermostat is set to cool ❄️- yes we know, duh! But you’d be surprised how many calls we come out to and it turns out this is the case. Always good to double check!

Here’s a helpful tip for coping with this heat! Understanding how your cooling system is designed and what it is capable of will make it easier to appreciate its cooling functionality.
Most air conditioners are sized to achieve 74F inside temperature when it’s 88F outside. This is also known as a delta T of 14 degrees. On a day like today when we are heating waving, it’s unlikely that your AC will get your indoor temp down to 68F. We see this all the time where clients call to complain about their AC “not working” when actually it’s working very hard!
In the GTA today, we reached 88F plus!! A cooling system that is functioning at optimal levels would be able to achieve 74F indoor temperature.
Here are some helpful tips to ensure your AC is functioning at its optimal performance.
1. Call Stott HVAC for preventative maintenance. 😛
2. Change your furnace filter.
3. Make sure your outdoor unit is clean and free from obstructions like overgrown bushes or shrubs.

Replacing this Hi-velocity attic cooling system was not glamorous but and make it look easy.
Today, we celebrate 5 years!!! It’s been 5 years since we started this company with 1 truck, 2 partners and 1 employee. We will never forget our humble beginnings.
We’ve grown since then; we now have 12 employees, 5 trucks and so many lessons. We have some new faces and we’ve lost some along the way. Some of us got married, some of us had babies, all of us lived through a global pandemic. We’re so proud of how far we’ve come.
We are in this for the long haul. Thank you to our amazing clients and team! We couldn’t do any of this without you.

There has been significant change at Stott HVAC over the past few months. We embrace some of this change and accept that some of it is outside of our control.
Like many of you, it has been a challenging couple of years. We have struggled to navigate a pandemic, changes in ownership, as well as high turnovers with our staff. But we are still here.
We pivot. We change. We fight another day.
We accept this time of change as an opportunity to re-evaluate our business priorities and redefine our company culture. Client satisfaction has always been our first priority. That will not change.
As we venture into this new chapter at Stott HVAC, we want to thank our loyal clients who have continued to support us through these challenging times. We also want to thank our incredibly talented and hardworking team who continue to show up for us and for our clients. We couldn’t do this without you.

We did a one off job for one of our best clients to help them out in a bind. It took us to Muskoka for four days.
This 2500 sq ft job included a furnace, gas piping, ductwork and roughing in for an AC. There was a little too much snow on the ground to install the condenser.
