What a way to start off 2022!

For our West Craft Blind Justice Class, the beers were too good to decide, so we have our first tie!

Nickel Brook Brewing Co. Cheeky Bastard Stout (4.5% ABV, 35 IBU) did not show its age at all after months on the shelf, which is a huge testament to the QC guys at the brewery for putting out such stable product, and Even Less Holy IIPA from Equilibrium Brewery and Evil Twin Brewing (8.0% ABV) brought the juicy hop love to come out as shared winners.

Such a fantastic showcase of the amazing beers they bring to our coast, and a nice sneak preview of what's coming next.

Next month we keep the buzz going with a class on Coffee Beers, on Feb 19th, at 6:30 PM. Tickets for the next class go on sale Monday at 10 AM, and will be available anywhere in the Province, with different ticket options available. ONE BIG GNARLY BARLEY 🤙

This is Ba Baracus. It's delicious. Absoluately delicious.

Commercial Description: “Shut up, fool!” wise words from our favorite A-Team Badass. Just like Sergeant Boscco, this limited Snale Works release has a massive character with a lot going on. This Barleywine is a gnarly 14% ABV, aged in Cutwater Single Malt Whiskey and Bourbon Barrels for over a year. Rich and full bodied, with succulent notes of toasted vanilla, bourbon, toffee, plums, and black cherries. B.A. Baracus is sure to be a bottle to hold onto. It’s limited release is one that you will want to experience over and over again.

This is Bz Baracus. It's got a few ABV points on the OG BA Baracus.

Commercial Description: A massive 16.5% abv Barleywine that’s been sleeping in Elijah Craig barrels for the last 15 months. We woke this sleeping brute and fed it “mounds” of cacao, almonds and coconut. Resulting in a absolute beast of a Barleywine! Collaboration with our family at Beer Zombies.

This is Experiments in the Kitchen (Mortalis Brewing Collab). It's a thing of beauty.

Commercial Description: Experiments In The Kitchen pours pitch black with a tan head. Aromas of pecan turtle doves, snickers bars, decadent fudge, and caramel lead into big flavors of brownie batter, caramel nut clusters, and maple vanilla fudge all wrapped up in a super decadent and creamy finish. This beer is a mouthful, literally, like the long list of adjuncts used in its creation.

This beer starts off with a fractal grain bill and keeping the hops All Aussie Everything, Galaxy leads the way on the dry hop with some support from Sabro and Citra. SFKS pours a hazy intense yellow with aromas of tropical fruit, coconut, and assorted citrus. The flavors of orange, melon, and gummy bears permeate under an umbrella of Pina colada. Tiki drinks on an Australian beach come to mind with each sip. This beer is extremely smooth for its size and contains our explosive profile giving you a melon and gummy notes on the backend. Equilibrium Brewery
11.00% - Imperial Stout with Madagascar Vanilla, Fiji Cocoa Nibs, Toasted Coconut and Espresso

Players 1 (Batch 2) is an American Imperial Stout brewed with Madagascar vanilla beans, Fiji cacao nibs, toasted coconut, and Mostra Coffee ghost bear espresso. No lactose was harmed in this beers creation. It pours jet black with a beautiful deep tan head. The dynamics of the relative adjunct strength shift as the beer warms and time lengthens. Batch 2 has the same creamy flavor of some of our favorite things: coffee at first and then a transformation to chocolate brownie batter sprinkled with toasted coconut flakes followed by notes of vanilla-marshmallow to balance it out.

This was my absolute favourite beer of the year.

REMINISCENT OF BUSIER TIMES

This is Above The Clouds. It reminds me of some of the real old-school american double ipas. Real delicious.

Commercial Description: Above the Clouds uses a heavy oat base and a whirlpool blend of Citra and Idaho 7. We then dry hopped it with Citra and the largest dose of Nelson to date and just a touch of lactose to really elevate its already velvety feel. It pours an opaque bright straw yellow with flavors of mixed citrus, a touch of sweet pine, gooseberry and faint notes of white wine grapes. The Nelson hops are showcased well and we find the flavors deep and complex while the finish is smooth and velvety thanks to our hopping processes.

CHRISTMAS IN THE TROPICS

This is Mc3. It's a mango bomb.

Commercial Description: The evolution is here and we are excited to bring it to you. MC³ breaks the laws of physics and implodes reality. Our flagship DIPA ‘MC²’ is photon’s hopping rate SQUARED, this TIPA is photon’s hop bill CUBED. Where Photon explodes into a rainbow of flavors, our first ever Double Whirlpool (DW) creates a rainbow of flavor that gets focused back to a singular stream of deliciousness as the next step in this energy evolution. This unique DW works synergistically with the appropriate Energy DH treatment. MC³ is basically MC² on the maximum permissible dose (MPD) of steroids. Extremely bright citrus, big mango, and assorted melon aroma and flavors. A dense hop saturated mouthfeel from our Double Whirlpool coats the tongue and our EQ juice is amplified by our Energy dry-hop methods to near cosmic boom levels.

HOLIDAY TRADITION

This is Rye Lager. It's one of my favourite beers. You should really seek it out.

Commercial Description: Historically country brewers in Finland and Russia used rye in their beers. Chuckanut Rye Lager is autumn inspired with a deep golden color and toasty flavor due to generous portions of rye malt and Spalt hops. This unique beer has a spicy rye bitterness rounded out with a creamy finish! Rye beers are an old style that is re-emerging across the American craft beer scene and becoming more popular.
