In LOVE with so much local work around here. It’s honestly made the terror & uncertainty & crazy instability worth it. My new friend is the perfect example of someone who inspires me & who I am thrilled to be working with.

Stefania hand-builds her pieces out of her home studio & works with materials in ways that I have been missing without knowing it. Raw finishes vs. a glossy glaze, natural colouring from the material itself - like painting with slip. It’s exciting & refreshing to celebrate the handmade nature of ceramics. The “imperfections” that make things beautiful.

Oof, anyway. I’m stoked to showcase the first piece we have by Stefania at Spruce. An incredible vase that can be enjoyed as a singular object or offer a vessel for that tangle of branches you always want to bring home ;)

We’ve been seeing a lot of “instagram isn’t real” posts lately - especially from small business. The story behind this sale is this: We are lucky to do a lot of gifting on behalf of our clients - sending a number of gift boxes or building gifting programs. But pretty large orders are placed to fill these orders & then (sometimes) the client disappears…😶 So we are left with way too much of something we have to pay for that we haven’t been paid for & yikes.

Some nice old maps I’ve secretly hoarded for too long being loaded online … mostly Ontario, some Quebec & Territories ranging from mid-1950’s to 70’s by the Department of Energy, Mines & Resources. About 20/60 are online now & more on the way sized at 29”x22.5”

It’s nice to feel a bit less winter today. I’ve been quiet on here as I figure out my new life & new business. Excited to see how this space will unfold & what we can create here.

Well, I’ve done it now. Once I saw a glimpse of original 8” tongue & groove hardwood under 2.5” tongue & groove hardwood I couldn’t unsee it. (Also thanks to a helpful poll in Stories, the majority of you couldn’t either so thanks for the confidence boost)

This old girl is being refreshed with so much love. I can’t wait to get to the archives to find out more about her…

Hello Hamilton!!

So excited to share we have new space on King Street East coming soon. After months of transition and uncertainty (and a lot of tears), it feels so good to say Spruce has a new home!

Located next to the iconic Black Forest Inn, this move brings things back to where it all started - providing part maker space that will allow us to craft our own line of goods, part quirky event & photography space, part retail-therapy haven.

The space includes a sweet back room salon to help keep us all looking gorgeous. And our friends will come along with a mini-shop of their own.

Is this the perfect summer incense? I think so! Fresh top notes of jasmine & lime mingle with sea salt & beechwood to produce an intoxicating floral that’s not too floral. Like the sweetness sunny days in fragrance form.

🛠️Practical Goods Appreciation Post🛠️
Seriously unsung heroes in the shop are these fabulously quirky-looking sponge clothes made in Vancouver.

Swedish-Style sponge cloths are an awesome way to cut down on paper towel use: 1 sponge cloth = 17 rolls of paper towel. They re-wash easily and are super handy little kitchen cleanup tools.

Who doesn’t need an eco-friendly cloth covered in dog-faces so wipe the counter?!?
