This Black Friday, we are continuing our yearly tradition of NOT having a sale.
While we understand that Black Friday sales can significantly help those on low incomes access things they need, a vast proportion of purchases made during these weekends are driven by flashy marketing and/or an impulsive desire to have the latest “it-piece”. In 2020, Black Friday online shopping surged 22% to a record $9 billion (Adobe Analytics) and was still second to Cyber Monday as the second-largest online spending day in U.S. history. These numbers are projected to increase even more this year, generating even greater volumes of waste than ever before.
For many of us, the excess associated with these sales has put the focus on quantity over quality and promotes the purchases of things we don’t really love (or need). So instead, we want to encourage everyone to make thoughtful purchases (if any at all). As said it best, .
