It's been said that variety is the spice of life. Well, when it comes to fishing, I sure have amazing variety! From a big water salmon slam trolling in the pristine waters of Lake Huron to a walleye smackdown in the St. Clair River, using a variety of techniques. This area has it all! Blessed to fish!!

Finally got a break from charters long enough to get my bride out for few hours on some quiet water. It was also the first fishing trip for canine companion Lida! Both girls did great and had a blast!

Well, the salmon derby may be over, but the fishing certainly isn't! Absolute silver smackdown continues for Copper Blues Fishing and its guests! 1 to 5 colours of lead on offshore tackle inline boards have been the ticket. Small body baits, and small spoons have been great. Orange seems to be the favorite colour at the moment. SmokerCraft's Phantom offshore premium fishing machine is getting us to and from the fishing grounds in style and comfort!
Still a few openings in May, including some weekend dates. Come on out and get in on the action.

What a fantastic derby. Thank you to the Bluewater Anglers! The Derby committee, the Village of Point Edward, and all of the great sponsors who make this happen every year!
The Capt and crew of Copper Blues put a poundind on the salmon all week, with the biggest at 14.16 lbs. 1 to 4 colours of lead off offshoretackle boards, we're best for us. Mongoose, blueberry muffin, bloody nose and antifreeze were our best spoons. Frog, Kenny walker and lady bug were the best body baits as well as a jointed J9 Rapala in orange.
Can't wait to do it again!

Well, Day 9 of the 48th annual Bluewater Anglers Salmon Derby was an absolute banner day for the crew on Copper blues ! It started with a little leftover light show from the northern lights. and it didn't take long for fishing action to start!
We put up with plenty of rain and wind, but it was worth every minute. Finished up the day with 2 kings, 6 cohos. We won't talk about pinks or the other hits we had. At the end of the day, it only matter what's "in the box" It was a great day of fishing with a great crew!
Biggest king was 14.16 lbs, not enough to make the top 10, but it will feed 10😋
Big king hit a slider over 27 in 55 ft of water, stinger spoon, orange and green with an antifreeze back. Other king came on a 5 colour lead set up towing a bloody nose moonshine spoon (reg size)
Good luck to everyone on the final day!

Well, Day 8 was a tough one. After a short boat ride in the morning, Capt. and crew made the decision to shut down the morning fish due to wind and wave conditions.
At about 11am, a few dock mates of mine convinced me that the wind had come down a bit and we should "give it a go"
Fished for a couple hours, landing a nice king and a coho. King came on a Kenny walker bomber on 2 colors of lead, off of the Offshore Tackle board.

Day 7 in the books, the wind started north northeast reasonable in morning but picked as the day went on. Conditions became tough, but were no match for the SmokerCraft Phantom or the cast iron guts crew aboard Copper Blues. The big chop from the north got the kings fired up. We fishished up with 3 kings and cohos and had an absolute blast! All kings were in the 10lb class and battled us proud!
1 color lead with frog bomber, and mongoose spoons (chartreuse) were the ticket.

Got a little behind in my derby updates. The coho smash continues, but the kings continue to elude us for the most part. Still a few being caught though, which is great to see. Orange chilly w***y, has been good, jointed J7 Rapala in orange on 1 or 2 colors lead has been good. Also worked some mag spoons off the riggers and sliders and the cohos were smashing them. Blueberry muffin and brown trout were good. Long A bombers in frog, Kenny walker and lady bug were also good. Having an absolute blast on the water! Last couple days included an "on the water BBQ lunch." Although I have to say, when you reach for the mustard, but grab the herring scented pro cure bait scent, it gives your BBQ'd sausage a whole new twist 🤣🤣🐟🐟

Day 2 in the books! The fishing wasn't stellar that's for sure. We were plagued by pink salmon. We released 6, and "discovered" another 6 tagging along. It was ladies day and we decided to stay the course for salmon, and not target Lake Trout. While that may not have worked out so well, I was blessed to have my 2 beautiful daughters aboard, and we did manage a couple cohos a rainbow and a walleye. A bit of a smorgasbord!

Brightened up the look on the SST Pro Mag inline boards by Offshore Tackle LLC. A little high viz tape, and a little help from my canine companion and the boards have nice fresh look. My fellow fishers should have no problem seeing these beauties on the water!

Wallyfest continues! This is earth day, and since the earth is 3/4 water, I thought, what better way to celebrate than to get out on the water!

19/04/2024

Just a reminder that the Outdoorsman in Sarnia is hosting a dipsy diver clinic this Tues 23 April from 6 to 7 pm.
I will cover all "the basics" of fishing with these directional trolling discs to help you put more fish in the boat. Call Kelly to reserve your spot. 519-344-8137

Hope to see you there!

Cheers, Capt Dave

From a Lake Huron coho smackdown to a St.Clair River walleye fest! Blessed to live in this area!

Another awesome SmokerCraft, makes it's way into the fishing world. Beautiful 1872 Sportsman powered by Yamaha! Southwest Marine and Power Sports carries a full line of SmokerCraft Boats! Best value on the water. Go see Brad, Nolan or Shawn at Southwest for all your boating needs!

Another banner day on the big water! It's not often that the wind/weather and fish all cooperate on the same day. Offshore boards and small orange body baits were the ticket today. The Phantom SmokerCraft performed like a champ.
13 coho and a bonus Atlantic on the day. Let's just say that the livewell was "alive and well" We won't talk about the others that were "on and gone" 😊

09/04/2024

Well....let's do in again! The Outdoorsman and Capt Dave of Copper Blues Fishing will be hosting a dipsy diver seminar at the Outdoorsman on April 23 from 6 to 7. As with the downrigger clinic, this is just the basics of "dipsy fishing" if you are proficient at this trolling technique, then this is not for you. This is a very basic beginners guide for those just starting out. Hope to see many of you there!
Limited space so be sure and call the Outdoorsman to reserve you place.

Cheers, Capt Dave

Loving the great eats from Lake Huron Coho. These fish are so good to eat that it's almost impossible to mess them up.
So many great ways to prepare them, from Ceviche to blackened to BBQ (after Capt Dave's marinade), to fish cakes!
