BE REAL is here… 3 minutes of existential intensity amidst an explosion of inner light.

this song was born out of the agony and existential dread of the endless rat race of life. I remember as a kid thinking that somehow I wouldn’t be a part of it, but soon enough in my 20s I realized I was jammed in the machine just like everyone else and there was no way out.

and deeper than that, I was jammed internally, stuck in the gears of my own mind where I felt imprisoned by strange forces and insane thought loops that seemed to electrocute me each time I tried stepping out of its boundaries.

I thought this surely couldn’t be the way life was meant to be lived? how could I be in such mental agony when I was still only in my 20s?

I realized there was something seriously wrong inside me, but I had the faith that there was some way out of it… and I eventually found the solution was SILENCE, as well as with taking control of our greatest power, our awareness, and directing it to destroy anything that obstructs us within.

this song encapsulates that feeling, of being trapped in the external and internal world… however it provides the spark that ignites the fire that can free you from it and cause the cathartic combustion of your inner light to burn alive the insanity inside.

luckily for all you busy bodies who love to get your sleep, our show will be at 7 pm… that’s right, just after you have your delicious daily kraft dinner and pulled pork sandwiches.

this festival is SO FUN, it is a whacky one with some of the best festival people there is. such good vibes everytime I’ve gone, and the music really gets people going, moving and partying all night long.

happy 82nd birthday to a musical DEITY! 🙌🏼 Paul McCartney, probably my number one musical hero 💕

the stratospheric levels of songwriting, singing, instrument playing and performing ability are absolutely out of this friggin world… not to mention the God-like levels of cultural impact, and that he was also a ridiculously good looking guy in his heyday (not so much anymore, sorry Paul, but still pretty good for 82!)…

to start, his first musical group was the BEATLES, which he was arguably the driving force of for the majority of its 7 year supernova-like existence (John was the driving force in the first half though)… there’s no point talking about all the influence and incredible accomplishments they achieved, that’s been done to death, although for a Beatlemaniac like me, you can’t get enough 😁… their songs are TIMELESS, they don’t age, they are eternally youthful and brilliant… they only have like 4 songs that aren’t very good, the rest are all total gems… and they did ALL OF IT in SEVEN YEARS, an impact that is STILL being talked about today… if you’re a hater, get a life and find a cooler way to be a rebel. 😋

since the Beatles, he literally HASNT STOPPED MAKING MUSIC… like not a single hiatus in his entire life… he lives and breathes music 24-7… Musical Deity much?

82 years old, still playing 3 hour concerts with no intermission and barely any sips of water… WTF…

this guy is a musical force of nature and as Bob Dylan put it once ´Paul McCartney is the only guy I’m truly in AWE of, he can do it all’.

some people criticize that he is too trivial and lighthearted in his lyrics and songs sometimes, which is fair enough, but not everything needs to be so heavy and deep all the time… music is just a bunch of vibrations and it’s sometimes super fun to just make songs that mean nothing but are musically thrilling…

all the songs I’ve made are heavily influenced by my love of Paul McCartney and the Beatles.

if you’re interested, look up Cryptomnesia on your streaming platform to hear it… perhaps you’ll hear some Beatlesy things going on in it 🙂

a master chess player, maker of fine-wines, beer and pizza and a man who is always and forever down to have a good time, jam and be part of the creative process. he is an unchangingly good vibes guy who instinctively knows how to add just the right things to the music and flow from one thing to the next like water. on guitar, with the magic fingers and his prized collection of Kijiji gear: ARTHUR WELDON. 🤩

I have known Arthur for probably the longest out of everyone. It all began at a post apocalyptic party town called Stuartburn many years ago.

it was a mini festival camping thing I went to with a bunch of friends in a field in the middle of nowhere right beside this abandoned house that had fallen apart.

this was where I met Arthur, he had his guitar with him and I brought mine along.

it was my first time going to this strange place and we ended up jamming like crazy that night and I would see him regularly with this friend group afterwards.

years went by with many party jams happening throughout, and then in 2022 he asked me to come over and jam for fun just him and I.

I was still feeling like the Lone Ranger with my music cause I had had too many experiences trying to jam with people and they would either:
a.) flake out
b.) turn out to be badly addicted to something
c.) be impossible to jam with enjoyably

but when Arthur asked I knew he was reliable and not an addict and was really great to jam with cause he understood the give and take and sensitivity needed to jam properly.

so I went over and I had a really fun time, and that caused me to go over more and eventually he suggested trying to play with other musicians and maybe do a cover show for fun.

this soon led to Ozconscious being a band again… and in Arthur’s mischievous eyes, it almost seemed like he knew all along!

the fact that we Ozconscious is now a band again is due almost entirely to Arthur! ❤️

CRYPTOMNESIA is the name, and 12 years in the making has been the game. (see photos for evidence of this)

this song encapsulates my experience finding myself and becoming who I am over the last 12 years of my life. it’s about all the self doubt and questioning you go through when you step out of the path that is EXPECTED of you, and you instead do what you FEEL is right for you; even if it’s not what other people want you to do.

it’s a song about knowing there is something precious, valuable and beautiful within you, a gift that only you can share with the world… but all the BS that society has taught you, all the nonsense your mind says about you and all the lies that people have said to you keep obscuring that precious gift you know is within you.

this song is about that struggle, of owning your self worth and knowing there is something powerful, beautiful and valuable within you that only you can bring to the world… everybody has that and how it expresses itself is totally unique to each person…

but the world wants to turn us all into cogs in a giant machine, robots who just follow orders and just exist surviving one day at a time.

this song embodies that rebellious carefree attitude that you CAN follow the path that is calling you and you can make it a path that is successful… it just may take you 12 years to do it. 😋

a man with a name that means ‘rock’, and a rock he is like no other; solid, steady, reliable and precise. he knows how to rock the music while adding a beautifully subtle swing to it. he plays for the SONG and keeps us on the right course; even beyond the music. hailing from La Broquerie with a natural sense of taste and elegance, a man who studied music at university, with a love for Lay’s Plain Chips and the Pink Panther that knows no bounds… ‘tis PIERRE DESORCY. 🤩

finding a drummer was probably the hardest thing to do, especially during the lone years where I was just figuring everything out by myself.

I had met a lot of drummers, but they were pretty much always in AT LEAST 5 different bands. I knew I may need to accept that but I still wished there was someone who had a LITTLE less commitments… and wouldn’t deafen us every practice.

while I was teaching I noticed there was a new drum teacher. I saw that he was probably around my age so I struck up a conversation with him and we talked about some crazy s**t that I would rarely ever talk to anyone else about. I really appreciated that.

then I overheard him playing and I really liked what I was hearing; it wasn’t too hard, too light, too simple or too complex; it was right in that nice balance.

my hopes were renewed, but at the time I was still very set on doing everything by myself because I felt like I was the only person I could rely on.

but then a friend of mine (the last mysterious member) pulled me out of my stubborn solitude and asked me to jam and suggested forming a band to do a one-off cover show just for fun.

I had a great time so I agreed, but we realized we needed a drummer… at that moment the glorious face and name of PIERRE arose in my mind, so, I shot him a message, half expecting that he would be too busy.

to my delight he responded right away and said he wasn’t in ANY OTHER bands at the moment 😱… I almost felt like it was too good to be true!

so I told him the address of the jam space and it turned out he could literally walk there in 2 minutes. 🤯

quite possibly the most pleasant person you will ever meet with the voice of a literal angel and a musical ability to match it. he is so naturally talented and has such an easy going personality that making music with him effortlessly takes things to a whole new level… on the keys with the soaring synthesizers, beautifully epic piano, and a voice straight outta heaven; the musical maestro: KALEN BOATH. 🤩

several years ago when I began working at I also worked the sales floor and one day a mom came in to sign her 15 year old son up for lessons.

she said he had already learned to play piano on his own but wanted him to get some lessons as well. as she told me this her son sat down on a piano and started playing this complicated ragtime cowboy saloon song PERFECTLY. 🤯

I was blown away and she said “oh yeah he does that all the time, he just figured it out by himself haha”. 😅

so she signed him up for lessons, but he was so good that in just a few years he began TEACHING piano… and voice… and guitar… and working the sales floor like I had been!

you’d think a guy like this would have an ego through the roof! but no, he is one of the most humble, easy-going, receptive and friendliest people I’ve ever met! and now he is in the band with us and we are so lucky to have him, his beautiful spirit and his incredible musical gifts. ❤️

a true aficionado of music with a musical taste and library more diverse than the amazon jungle… a talented multi-instrumentalist with the articulative ability and personality of a radio host… a hilarious, charismatic and cool af dude who is ALWAYS impeccably dressed… meet the owner and captain of the spaceship synth bass, the key component that provides the pulsating electrified foundation of our music: EDWARD BOSNJAK.🤩

one of the key elements of the sound I envisioned was synth bass, and finding a person who could do it was very difficult... it wasn’t like a keyboard and it wasn’t like a bass guitar, it was a combo of both… finding someone who actually HAD one made it even more difficult…

so in a night of frustration I did what all sane people do; I made a facebook status… I asked if there was anyone out there who played synth bass and wanted to join a band.

my friend commented saying a man with the glorious name of Edward was interested in new music projects. (see exhibit A)

so I messaged him, and he immediately replied and we struck up a fantastic convo right away… I mentioned that my brother used to play a Moog Sub37 for the band and how I just loved the sound of it…

and to my amazement he said:

I HAVE a Moog Sub37…. (see Exhibit 😎

I was so shocked, and so thrilled to hear that; and then the conversation took off to another level…

soon enough he came to rehearsals and immediately it felt right and the sound of his bass was just as incredible as I imagined and his creativity, charisma, and talent added even more to the music…

having a man with such a wildly diverse musical taste and diverse array of talent, who is also just a frigging great guy to hang out with, create with and collaborate with is such a gift… we are so lucky to have Edward aboard the Ozconscious ship. 🩵

I was a student with very lofty ambitions 👨‍🏫 but in reality I was so depressed around the time this pic was taken 😂

quite literally the worst year of my life was grade 12… I just hated everything, nothing was enjoyable and everything was painful… I couldn’t believe it, I thought it was gonna be like how the movies and tv shows portrayed high school!

the only solace I found was playing guitar and singing, in the tiny little 45 minute time before my parents came home from school when I could sing without anyone hearing me… 😂

luckily I kept doing that over the years and then lo and behold I’m doing what I’m doing now! without the depression too! 🙌🏼

in the music festival scene, you meet a lot of people, and I had known Mel through this scene for a while, mainly in passing.

but it was one fateful time when my badly named cover band was throwing a live karaoke night, and we posted our set list on the internet so people could see if they wanted to sing any of those songs.

Mel commented mentioning how there was a ´distinct lack of female artists’ on the list and I was flabbergasted at how true that was! (see pic for Exhibit A)

I couldn’t believe I didn’t realize that all the songs I was singing were pretty much only male artists!

but she understood and then asked if I could learn a song beforehand that she could sing that night.

so we did! and the night of the karaoke show, she came and sang ‘Walkin After Midnight’ by Patsy Cline and it was soooo frigging good.

it felt very natural with her onstage singing the song and it was a very memorable experience.

flash forward a few months later and lo and behold we are practicing original songs together, recording and practicing the magical male/female harmonies that I always envisioned for Oz!

we’re so lucky to have Mel on board because she brings so much more than just her vocal abilities to the table. the entire project feels 10 times as professional, organized and fun!

music festivals change lives 🙌🏼 I wouldn’t be who I am today if I hadn’t gone to folk fest that first time. 🩵

I remember it so clearly… my brother and I were driving to the birds hill campground listening to Oracular Spectacular by MGMT.

I knew it was going to be fun, but I had no idea that 4 days later when it was all over I would never be the same again.

the friends I made and reconnected with felt like family, and the amount of acceptance and freedom I felt to be my weird crazy self was so liberating.

music festivals (at least the ones I went to) are like a celebration of individuality.

you’ll walk around and see people dressed up in the most ridiculous things, and overhear the most ridiculous conversations and have the most ridiculous times.

but for me the most memorable and impactful was the all night jams and sing-a-longs.

Oz was a band then and we had played multiple shows, but I was still uncomfortable playing and singing just with my acoustic guitar in front of people.

the first night I got very loosened up by many of the ´activities’ that everyone was participating in, and someone said to me ‘Tate you play guitar, why don’t you bring it out?!’

so I did, and after that point the rest is history to me, because it opened up this entire world of musical possibility I had never experienced before.

there’s no way to accurately sum up what happened, or how to accurately sum up how amazing music festivals are.

you just gotta go, to any of these festivals… that’s all I can say.

there were moments of despair when I had my doubts, but deep down, I always knew that no matter what, I would make sure Oz became a full band again, record the songs that were never recorded and play LIVE.

today i’m so happy to announce that that is now ALL a reality.

we, ozconscious, six piece psych-synth-indie-pop-rock band, will be headlining our first show in 7 years to celebrate the release of our first single off of our upcoming album.

CRYPTOMNESIA

this song began as a riff I made in my bedroom at 16 years old after coming home from school feeling so apathetic about everything, but finding peace and empowerment in my guitar.

I thought for sure that this riff was from another song, so I asked people if they had heard it before and they would say it sounded kind of similar to things but was never exactly the same.

so I kept adding to it over the years until it became an ode to that experience of cultivating that confidence within yourself that there there is something amazing, precious and valuable within you… even though your mind torments you, even though you are overloaded with the nonsense of the media and the relentless pressure of society is trying to bend you into something you are not.

this is one of many original songs that span a wide array of emotions and energies we will play this night.

alongside us will be touring band an ambient rock band from Saskatchewan who often reject conventions in slight but powerful ways. at times you’ll feel the urge to move, at others you’ll feel the brute force of loss, with the only constant an honest take of what it’s like to live in a world that deserves our empathy.

opening will be who make music composed of soaring synths, saxophone and electric guitars propelled by energetic dance beats. their songs are about love, loss, disconnection and prescription drugs.

I have poured my heart and soul into this, and I am so excited to finally share it with you.
