we’ve had quite a 2023.
I wanted to feature this interview my amazing daughter did talking about her trip through lymphoma treatment this year.
If your budget supports it: many employers provide ‘donation matching’ this time of year: so consider making donations to local organizations that help directly in your community: you can usually hit your employer’s HR internal website to trigger donation matches. Please try.
I’ve created a new ETSY listing for the spice mills that my autistic son and I are creating: These are helping him to develop his woodworking skills!
its a short time before the holidays: but these can still get across canada before Friday: and if you’re in Ottawa, the good folks at Gopher It Deliveries can get the mills to you:

Lots going on in Distinctive Woodworking/Pens by Jonathan land… Last week’s CTV Ottawa segment got followed up with a CTV national news LIVE interview. And thus, of course, my steadycam crashed near the end of the interview!
Merella of CTV did an amazing job of keeping my son involved in the discussion, and they picked perfect segments from my IG feed to highlight my son’s woodworking.
You like what you see? Feel free to drop by 613flea’s holiday market on Friday night Dec 15 or Dec 22nd and pick up some of the beautiful work my son and I create!
THanks to the lovely folks at Ausome Ottawa!!!
A big thank you to parent, Jonathan, and athlete alumni, Kieran, for their ongoing, generous support of Ausome! Kieran is now by Jonathan's side helping out with his woodworking business. Check out their segment on CTV on Jonathan's FB Pens by Jonathan to learn more.
Very grateful to 613flea and to CTV News Ottawa for this amazing segment talking about autism supports for youth, for featuring my autistic son’s amazing woodworking collaborations with me.
Sorry about the ‘screen capture’ video: but with Facebook restricting Canadian news content this seemed to be the best way.
Just a few of the amazing items I will have at the 613flea Christmas events this weekend: 613flea’s events at Carleton U’s field house on Dec 2 and 3rd and at TD Place ’s Aberdeen Pavillion Dec 1 5PM to 10PM will be perfect for some holiday shopping.

Hey today is "Fountain Pen Day" a reminder to put the screens away for a bit and find some time to re-discover and enjoy writing things down.
Come find me at the Nepean Sportsplex Christmas Craft Show - Salon d'artisanat de Noël today Friday (10AM to 8PM) and with any fountain pen purchase, I'll have a couple of 'FPD' bonuses available. (But only if you mention this FB post!)
And yes, yes indeed: that IS a Christmas calendar of INK! Who needs chocolate when you can have 25 days of glorious colours.
I'm at booth 503: come straight in the door: head straight ahead to the back, and hang a left. I'm near Pookie's Thai Ottawa
When the walnut is THIS beautiful, its hard to stop making bowls from it.
These will make beautiful food serving bowls for holiday treats: Each is made from walnut from the Ottawa area, and finished with food safe beeswax and walnut oil finishes.
Come buy these 613flea on Nov 18th.
I’ll also be at the Nepean Sportsplex Nov 2nd to Nov 5th, https://fb.me/e/3X2yDzl6r
and the Canadian Museum of History Christmas market on Nov 23 to 26th.
I also have some stunning spice mills made from the same log: this all comes from a stunning walnut tree that sadly came down in the Kemptville area.
Follow along to see more beautiful items being created…
I was supposed to be at a great little market today (sunday Oct 15) : Broadhead Brewery. and Emri Home But I feel like crud, and so I think for only the 2nd time in 20 years I”m not at a market I signed up for :(
But please do go and support the event: there are some lovely vendors there and you’ll have a great time.
Brand new spice mills available today 613flea!!!
Saturday 10AM to 4PM.
If you’re an lover, come and see what beautiful things you can cook with!
These are all made from Ottawa area woods, (Apple, Maple, Walnut) and use a high quality food safe ceramic grinder. (No ‘unknown metals’ in a grinder from China…)
Perfect for anything from salt to pepper, herbs, spices, even harder things like fennel and flaxseed.
Also works for “leafy recreational substances” :)
Beautiful finish in walnut oil and beeswax; a perfect gift for yourself or someone you care for who loves to cook.
As the holidays creep closer: 613flea will have your back: Come visit Oct 14th and talk pens, spice mills, bowls, chopsticks and furniture.
These beautiful spice mills are made from reclaimed Ottawa area maple and walnut: and are made with a high quality food-safe ceramic spice grinder.
I won’t make a spice mill with anything less.
You can recognize these by the fact that they are ‘clean’ on top:no bolts or weird handles.
They’ll happily grind any herb or spice you want, or the more simple salt/pepper as well.
The photo shows the log-section that one of the maple mills came from: and not a piece of wood goes to waste: the smaller leftover pieces turn into pens or chopsticks.
