Last call for youth from the South East Sport, Culture & Recreation District Inc. to learn about competitive paddling and register to compete for the 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games! This year's games is a great opportunity for even beginner paddlers to learn about canoe & kayak races and participate in some great training sessions over the next few weeks working towards this awesome event.

Check out this session on Friday June 28th from 10am to Noon at the Weyburn Canoe and Kayak Club located in Nickle Lake Regional Park to get involved!

Sunday June 16 - RMCC race in Lumsden. Windy day but great paddling by all!

Great to see young athletes learning the ropes of Marathon paddling! Yorkton Canoe Kayak Club thanks for coming!

Edith from Saskatoon Canoe Club represented her club!

CKS Paddling Development Director (Jessica) and Sask Games & Learn-to-Paddle Coordinator (Max) were able to attend post camp/trials in Prince Albert. Max even got in on the races!

Well done to everyone who attended. RMCC hosts another event in September. Stay tuned to FB or follow them Regina Marathon Canoe Club for more details.

Next Sk marathon race will be in July at SCC. Contact them for more details or stay tuned for social media posts.

Friday June 14th - CKS hosted a youth training camp at Sturgeon Lake (near Prince Albert) for the recruitment and training for the Saskatchewan Summer Games and the Tony Cote Summer Games. 65+ athletes attended and were introduced to/developed skills in Canoeing (Marathon), Kayak (Sprint & Rec), Voyageur Canoe, and Dryland training.

Saturday June 15th - Sask Games and Tony Cote Games team trials were hosted (Northern/Woodland & PAGC/Lakeland). Great weather and great racing!
Athletes even did a sprint kayak race (as it is included in the Tony Cote Games as a demo sport for 2024 to begin recruiting for NAIG!)

Thank you to Kistahpinanihk Paddling Club specifically Danielle and Dwight for all your hard work and helping arrange equipment.

Thank you to Alton Michel for going above and beyond in helping coach at the camp and help facilitate trials!

Thank you to the Northern Lights Community Development Corporation for their support of KPC programming & providing resources/funding.

Thank you to everyone who showed up to cheer athletes on, to the parents and chaperones who got the athletes there, and thank you to the Councils who partnered with us to make the event happen!!

UPDATE: Some tweaks to the upcoming race training sessions at the Wicihitowin Paddling Club, targeted at athletes interested in the 2024 Saskatchewan Summer Games to represent the Rivers West District for Sport, Culture & Recreation!

These are great opportunities to build your skills with members of the club who will be coaching the Rivers West Team. Team Trials are later this month and your can continue this training until the games begin July 21st!

The CanoeKayak Canada Officials program is a structured progressive program involving three levels of Officials. The fourth and final accreditation is obtained through the International Canoe Federation. The program stresses integration of theory, practical and competency based assessment at all levels.
Level 1 - Club Competitions
Level 2 - Divisional competitions/Provincial competitions
Level 3 - Inter-Divisional Competitions/ National Championships/ Canada SummerGames/ Special O

CanoeKayak Canada Officials are trained to ensure two fundamental requirements of any sprint regatta at all levels of competition: Safety and Fairness.
Minimum requirements to become and Official
A. Minimum 16 years of age;
B. Membership to Canoe Kayak Canada; (through CKS)
C. Willing to complete the appropriate training;
D. Commitment to volunteer for a minimum of 2 days per year.
