Nutrition Facts and Analysis for Oats 04/11/2015

Nutrition is a vital part to any fitness goal. Starting the day off with a proper breakfast can improve the rest of your day. It is important to get some good complex carbohydrates early in the day. Unlike simple carbohydrates that give you a short burst of energy and leave you hungry an hour into the work day, complex carbs with sustain you much longer.

One of the best complex carbs out there is the oat. This humble grain is packed with all sorts of goodness, in just 2/3 or a cup (100 grams) you get 17 grams or protein, 11 grams of fiber, and a power pack of minerals! Rolled oats are the most common, but if you want the energy to last a little longer try the steel cut version.

Beware of the instant oatmeal, these packets are loaded with extra sugar and oil to make them taste better. Instead adding the sugar, try putting a little fresh or frozen fruit on the oatmeal to add sweetness and flavor. The natural sugars are much better than the refined kinds.

As a comparison to oats, quinoa is an excellent low calorie high protein grain, but pound for pound oats are a much more nutrient packed grain. Oats even pack more protein!

How To Do A Push-Up With Proper Form - BuiltLean 01/11/2015

Lets start November off with the first D'alt's Challenge!

Push-up Challenge

The push up is a superb exercise, that can be performed anywhere! This challenge requires you to set a timer for 2 min 30 sec and do as many push ups as possible in that time. After the push ups take a 1 min rest. Repeat the push ups and rest 3 times. Count the total push ups done and try to match or beat this number the next time. Do this exercise once a day, everyday for the next week and see how much of an improvement you can make!

Quality comes before quantity in working out. Remember to use proper form, as it prevents injury and improves the muscle engagement. For a push up, it's important to have a straight back and hands positioned at chest level. The following link provides details on proper form:

The most important aspect of training is the consistency. A 10 minute workout everyday is better than an hour workout once a week. Starting this week, keep an eye out for "D'alt's Challenges". These will be simple workouts that you can do once a day. All you need is yourself! Stick with it, and you will start to see improvements after only a week!
