Garlic is starting to sprout, which is getting me excited for the season. What have you noticed growing in your gardens lately?

As gardening season approaches, it's time to start indoor seeding or plan your outdoor seed choices. A good example is to search for reputable suppliers or local seed exchanges, considering your climate, space, and desired harvest times for successful gardening 🌻

Earlier today, we captured a fascinating sight: the honeybees were emerging from their hives while still snugged under their winter covers.

One of the most satisfying feelings is seeing your bees survive the long winter months. Knowing that they have made it through means that they are ready to begin the upcoming season of honey production and pollination.

15/01/2023

As a beekeeper, the sight of dead bees is not something one would wish to encounter frequently; however, dead bees on the snow outside of the hive may indicate that the colony is still alive 🌸

During the winter season, honeybees huddle together in their colonies to stay warm and survive the cold. The bees take turns moving to the outside of the cluster to keep the center warm and rotate through the cluster so that all bees have a chance to survive the winter.

04/01/2023

Farmers have a bit more time during the winter months to focus on maintenance and planning for the upcoming growing season. This can include deciding what crops to plant, ordering supplies, processing and preserving produce, and maintaining equipment.

Wishing you all the best in the New Year of 2023!

Honey soap: the beekeeper removes the wax to release the honey. The wax is then recovered for multiple uses: some use it as a moisturizer, as a skin repair or soothing agent.

Q. What is garlic scape?
A. Garlic scapes are the tender stem and flower bud of a hardneck garlic plant.

Q. Can we eat garlic scapes?
A. The scapes can be considered gourmet product, as they are rare, and grow only from hardneck garlic. Eating them grilled, as aromatic such as pesto or hummus, or as powder are great ways to use them in recipes.

Ontario strawberries are at their peak in June & July, but can be found from May until October! In addition to a juicy texture and sweetness, strawberries are packed with vitamin C and fibre.

Fall planting garlic: the best way to grow hardneck garlic, in our opinion 😎. Fall garlic is planted in late October early November. The crop roots in during the fall season, and starts sprouting as soon as weather permits in the spring 🌱.
