Kiwi & Vesper (LBF)
Cats have a reputation as loners – Kipling’s story of “The Cat That Walked By Himself” is not only a great story, but also something of an archetype. And we certainly have plenty of cats in the Sanctuary who do prefer to be alone.

But not always – for some of them, relationships with other cats are very important. They may be family relationships, or comfort, or just “how things are”. We will often find the same groups of cats in the same place – like the group that hang out in the space outside the SingleWide, or the Pen 3 cats who tend to operate together. And sometimes the bond is more focused than that. All our cats are spayed and neutered, so s*x doesn’t come into it – but it’s not just a matter of hormones; sometimes two cats just belong together. Vesper came into our care in late 2017 (black left) when he and his buddy Fable (Siamese cat second photo) were surrendered for excessive peeing/spraying. The owners didn’t know who the culprit was, and we think it may have been stress peeing in any case, but they arrived together and stayed together. We talked about their “bromance”; you would occasionally encounter them apart, but they loved to snuggle. And then Fable passed, and Vesper was left on his own. Kiwi came to us about a year later, one of a group of nine cats from a rescue in Alberta. Some of them proved to be FIV+ and moved to Old Aids, but the front courtyard welcomed grey Shiver (now gone), black Salem, and the calico sisters, Melon, Honeydew and Kiwi. All were pretty feral, and it’s taken time for them to learn that humans are the source of great petting and tidbits.

The three girls are all pretty cat-social, and usually hang out in the same area, around the Connor building. Most recently, Kiwi is more frequently found IN the Connor, snuggling with Vesper. The flirt is mutual, unlike the one-sided relationship of Dusty and Lincoln (she adores him and follows him around; he just ignores her!). Kiwi and Vesper groom each other, and it’s anyone’s guess as to which one will move first and who will follow.

A finished result can often be overwhelming and emotional. This stunning kitchen designed by is now cozy, bright, open, and welcoming. Our clients can now feel good about hosting plenty of family gatherings well into the future.

Our Port Moody home renovation has just been completed. This is a sneak peak as our professional photos are coming soon! This home had new homeowners with a growing family.

Renovating the old closed in kitchen was a high priority of theirs but they were a little lost with where to start as their home had major structural issues and needed a lot of upgrades and repairs.

After visiting the home we determined the best value approach with the amount of work that would be required would be to bring in one of our recommended award wining designers for our clients long term goals. The result is a show stopper!

Job Description:

We are looking for a dedicated lead carpenter or motivated carpenter apprentice with the willingness to learn who is passionate about their craft and committed to delivering high-quality work. As a Carpenter or Carpenter Apprentice, you will work with my guidance, contributing to various renovation projects from start to finish.

Responsibilities:

-Assist in various tasks pertaining to completing a renovation start to finish. Mostly bathrooms/kitchens and complete interior renovations. (Mostly interior)
-Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
-Measure, cut, shape, and assemble materials according to project requirements.
-Perform tasks such as framing, finishing, some cabinetry, and installations of misc tasks such as pre demo job set up like neatly installing ram board and dust protection walls, completing safe demo, back framing, vapour barriers, insulation, sometimes a bit of drywall boarding, laminate flooring etc. We discuss what additional tasks you may be able to take on during the planning of a project.
-Collaborate with the team to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to the highest standards.
-Follow established safety guidelines and regulations on-site.
-Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
-Assist in the cleanup and organization of the job site. May include picking up materials and dump runs.
-Learn and develop new skills under the guidance of a mentor.
-Demonstrate a strong work ethic and willingness to learn and grow within the company.

Requirements:

For 3rd/4th year Carpenter Apprentice: Experience in renovations or related field is preferred. Willingness to learn and grow. Work vehicle. (Please also read carpenter requirements *).
For Carpenter: Minimum 5 years of experience as a Carpenter in residential renovation construction.
*Solid understanding of carpentry techniques, tools, and materials.
*Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
*Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
*Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor.
*Basic knowledge of safety protocols and regulations.
*Work truck and good range of work tools preferred.
*Relevant certifications and licenses are a plus.
