Looking for some beach reading? Save this list! Here are some of the books I frequently recommend to clients to help them learn about the menopause transition, get assistance with common issues and implement habits that last. 📘Next Level by @drstacysims This one is great for athletes, and I have noticed some huge improvements in my own training by implementing some of the suggested strategies in this book. 📘The Women’s Guide to Overcoming Insomnia by @sleepdocshelby Even if you don’t struggle with sleep, this book is great for understanding how perimenopause affects sleep, what to watch out for and how to implement good sleep hygiene practices. 📘Atomic Habits by @jamesclear and 📘Tiny Habits by @bjfogg Midlife is busy! Small, daily habits are how you can implement change that last. 📘Why Has No One Told Me This Before? by @drjulie I love this book for practical strategies to help with anxiety, low mood and cultivating resilience. 📘Menopocalypse by @amanda.thebe A great personal account, evidenced-based information about menopause and some kick-ass home workouts all in one. 📘Unlock Your Menopause Type by @heatherhirschmd Love that this book has a dedicated section for surgical menopause and POI. 📘The Menopause Manifesto by @drjengunter My favourite - if you only get one book about menopause, it should be this one. I have two copies, and they are well-worn (as you can see!). What would you add to this list? Why do I always think of the perfect thing to say three days later in the shower? 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve had my concerns about the menopause transition (aka perimenopause) brushed off before because I am way too young. Facts: The average age of menopause in Canada AND 90% of people with ovaries will reach the age of menopause BETWEEN 45-55 years old. Perimenopause can last anywhere from a few months to 10 years. You can be in perimenopause in your late 30s and early 40s and deserve the opportunity to discuss your health concerns with your care provider. If you’re planning a visit to your doctor’s office to talk about the perimenopause transition, maybe keep these phrases in your back pocket in case you need them. Hopefully, you won’t. #menopause #perimenopause #hotflahses #nightsweats #menopausesymptoms #menopauserelief #menopausesupport #perimenopausesymptoms #perimenopausesupport #womenshealth #menopausehealth #midlifehealth #healthyafter40 #howtotalktoyourdoctor #menopausetips

And that’s okay. It can be a hard pill to swallow. We are so conditioned to believe that “pain is gain” or that “sacrifices need to be made” in the name of wellness. I had a follow-up with a client yesterday who reported: ✅ having good energy ✅ no issues with digestion ✅ more satisfaction in her eating ✅ feeling better attuned to her fullness And she wanted to know if she was doing everything “right” because it wasn’t drastic, and she felt…good. When you start a new plan that focuses on adequate nutrition and tuning into your hunger, fullness and satisfaction, it’s not going to feel extreme. And that’s the point. Want to learn more? 3 Tips for New Years Resolutions 1/ Be realistic! Start with where you are and add baby steps to where you want to be. 2/ Think of a backup plan for when life gets busy. This will allow you to continue to progress toward your goal. 3/ Try to focus on daily habits instead of deadline or outcome-based goals. Do you make New Year's Resolutions? Today is Women's Brain Health Day! 70% of those with Alzheimer's disease are women. I have a family history, so try to do what I can to keep my brain sharp. We know that one of the best ways to prevent cognitive decline is to keep challenging our brains to learn new things. Today, I'm taking the @standahead challenge. Here's how to participate: 1/ record a video of yourself writing your name on a piece of paper with your dominant and non-dominant hand, showing the comparison 2/ post to social media and nominate two friends to do the same 3/ donate to The Women's Health Initiative at the site STANDAHEAD.ORG The first $250,000 raised will be matched by @braincanada I nominate @callaneticsvancouver and @miriambowlby. I've made donations in your names already What do you do to challenge your brain? #standahead #womensbrainhealth #womensupportingwomen
