Tips to help keep your four legged friends during heat Advisories

🐾keep your dog inside during the peak heat periods during the day (usually afternoon). Consider walking your dogs first thing in the morning or later at night when its cooler
🐾When it's hot outside the pavement your dog walks on is even hotter! So protect those paws and check the pavement to see if it'd to hot. A good way to test the pavement is by putting your hand palm down on the pavement. If you can keep your hand there for more then 30 secs it's not to hot. If you can keep your hand for less before it gets to hot then it's time for paw protection or consider altering your outdoor plans. You can use boots that are specially designed for puppy paws. See below picture where Dar is rocking in her turquoise blue ruff wear boots. You can also use specially made wax to provide a barrier on your dogs paw. We've used Musher Secret before with great success and we're also looking into trialing Only One Treats paw balm as I've heard good reviews on their. *they happen to be local as well and we love to support local as much as possible!
🐾Keep your dog cool inside to avoid heat stroke and monitor closely for symptoms as it's very easy for dogs to get heat stroke. Offer your dog lots of water and don't restrict water access especially during heat events. Use fans or cooling mats to help keep your dog cool. Close your blinds during the day to keep the cool air in and the hot air out. Open windows and blinds at night when it cools down.

Allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Emily. Originally from Ontario, I moved to Vancouver BC almost 3 years ago.

I am a full time elementary EA and a blind snowboarding athlete working towards competing at the Winter Paralympics. I have a beautiful 6 year old service dog named Darling who helps keep me safe since I only see out of my right eye. She goes every where I go and I love having her by my side. Darling is a golden retriever lab cross.

Darling is actually my second service dog. My first service dog was a beautiful pure breed yellow lab named Olivia. She worked for a solid 9 years. Once retired, Olivia lived and enjoyed her golden years with my family until she unfortunately passed away last year at the age of 14 years 5 months.

Olivia actually had a grain allergy, which was discovered a few years after we were paired as a team, so my mom started making homemade dog treats that Olivia enjoyed very much! They are healthy treats with simple ingridients but filled with flavour. My mom and a few of my neices started selling their homemade dog treats in Ontario and have quite a few happy and waggy customers (and it's growing constantly)

Now that I'm living in Vancouver and knowing their are lots of people who have dogs as pets I thought it would be great to start up a small pet treat business that I can run on the side and thus this is how Delicious Doggo Treato's came to be.
