Tansy Trading

Scissor pocket using all sold style and antique materials and techniques. Beadwork is strung on sinew and tacked down with cotton thread on wool backed with canvas then lined with vintage calico. All antique Italian and Czech beads, plus French steel cuts. Back and lace is smoked moose hide. Finished with cotton binding. No stabilizer or glue used 😤 Shoutout to for keeping me motivated and inspired to practice these techniques in my work!

Finished wall pocket with instruction from Gregory Scofield. Inspired by wispy prairie flowers and a moss bag I saw in Manitoba. Mostly old beads with some contemporary beads, melton wool, and silk ribbon. Finished with a lil moose hide loop.

Really proud of this bag, I think it’s my strongest work thus far. it’s a special gift for my stó:les :) save for the light pink on the back side, all the beads are vintage or antique. Beaded on Pendleton wool backed with canvas, strung on bison sinew and tacked with cotton thread. The loom panel uses 13/0-ish sized beads and cotton thread. Each fringe has a ‘Russian facet’ trade bead on the end.

We did the first spring clean since our move to the sticks, which means we’re going ahead with our first de-stash 😬 check the website for lots of new trade beads, ribbon, and wool.

Up for grabs! The first larger scale weaving I took on. 220 threads, 100% wool. Weaving is 36”, fringe is 16” plus 4 24” “drawstring” fringes sewn on. DM if interested, price will reflect some beginner mistakes

My grandma gave my late papa’s Mora hunting knife. The case is made of veneer, I wrapped it in buckskin and used all antique beads (except the grey green). I decided to bead it after I brought it on my first hunt and used colours I saw during the day. I wish I could have gone out with him when he was here but I feel really happy to have this as I start my journey

One of the biggest asks we had last year. We put together some curated kits but found they weren’t exactly what people were looking for.

This year we’ve put together something we hope will cover people who want to encourage people to pick up the craft, or those who want to get something that will get experienced beaders going!

Okiskinwahamawâkan [student] kits come with:
4 hanks of our double cut beads,
a piece of stabilizer with the pattern ironed on (floral or geometric),

The “floral” kit comes with silver hawk bells, 4 green Vaseline trade beads and a 14 gram bag of mixed colour steel cut beads (pre-1914)

The “fire” kit comes with gold hawk bells, 6mm red white heart trade beads, greasy yellow pony beads, a strand of vintage red, white, and blue striped seed beads.

We’re really really excited to share that we secured the last rolls of some now out of production herringbone twill tape and wool binding.
We always struggle to find materials at a quality that match what we see in heirloom/ancestral pieces and we can’t be happier to share these. When choosing the palette we tried to choose broadly used, old-school colors as they were available. These will be going live tomorrow 😎 🎀
