Greater Victoria local businesses need our support all year-long, which is why we challenge you to adopt buying local as a habit in your everyday life. This means choosing to spend local on your everyday purchases instead of turning to multinational corporations.
Why is buying from local businesses important? Well, local businesses are the backbone of our economy and the heart of our community. Local businesses make our region better, whether it's by donating to local community organizations, events, and charities; creating jobs for local people; recirculating 63% of every dollar back into the local economy; or just making Greater Victoria in general a better place to live. 🛍🎉Welcome to the 2022 Buy Local Pledge! Greater Victorians did such a great job thinking local during the 2021 holiday season, and we want to continue that trend into the New Year.
That’s why we’re challenging you to take the 2022 Buy Local Pledge and make a commitment to buying local in 2022. Now more than ever, Greater Victoria local businesses are relying on the community to keep them afloat, and even a small shift towards buying local can have a huge impact on our community and our economy.
While spending a little extra on unique gifts at local businesses for friends and family during the holiday season is fantastic, the doesn’t have to mean spending more than you normally would. We challenge you to build buying local into your daily routine by choosing local for your everyday expenses–filling up your gas tank, buying groceries, going for a check-up, you name it!
If half the employed population spent $150 a month at local business, it would put $161 million back into the BC economy, every month. It’s time to take the pledge–buying local has tangible impacts on keeping our economy and community resilient and as vibrant as ever.
