"Halfway Through The Dark," my inaugural Christmas album, is now resonating through over 25 radio stations worldwide and reaching countless hearts through the vast expanse of the internet. The effort poured into crafting these songs has been rewarded tenfold by the flood of touching comments. Knowing it's made a difference in people's lives during this often challenging season brings immeasurable joy.

One song, in particular, has been a dear companion in my heart for over 15 years. The song has this short lyrical piece at the beginning and I envisioned a dreamlike string section that would take the listener on a magical journey through the snowy skies, high above the glowing lights below (like Walking On The Air from The Snowman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X986dthrhaQ...) Thanks to the incredible talent of Jody Onuma, that vision became a reality. Her violin duet arrangement and dual performances made my song a reality. I am so grateful for many things, but Jody's commitment to supporting and encouraging my music stands out as one of the things I am most grateful for this year. I am honoured and proud to have the opportunity to showcase just a few of her many talents on this song and album.

Victoria Royals’ annual Teddy Bear Toss returns to Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this weekend One of the Victoria Royals' most anticipated home games of the season is taking place this weekend at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre.

I'm excited to be a part of at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre this Saturday evening. I'll be performing before the hockey game (5:30PM) and during the intermissions. It's the annual Teddy Bear Toss. There will also be an "Ugliest Christmas Sweater" contest and a holiday craft market. It's going to be a lot of fun! Victoria Royals Hockey Club

It's finally here! I set out September 15th to do the impossible by a strict deadline, November 15th. I have always wanted to make a Christmas album to showcase 3 original songs: Christmas Time Alone, Halfway Through The Dark and a lovely artistic piece called Snowed Inside. These songs have sat in my mind with me for 6, 17 and 20 years respectively. They refused to fall away into the ether and insisted on being released to the public. So it is with great honour (and some due relief) that I serve these songs by releasing them to the public TODAY, Dec 1st 2023. Nearly every day since September 15th 2023, I would come home from my full-time job at UVIC, make a quick dinner and then get to work. I sketched out the arrangements, laid down the scratch tracks, tracked the REAL live instruments (except for the orchestra samples, the VSO was busy 😆), sang my heart out, learned (YouTube) and accomplished the mixing and mastering and finally at 12:11am (11 minutes past my deadline) I sent the finished tracks to the distributor for approval. It has been an intense learning curve and a stressful (though positive) journey. I made the deadline and immediately changed to marketing mode. The album is being played on 12 radio stations so far and counting. Please ask your local station to play Rob Fillo's Halfway Through The Dark this holiday season.

I would like to give a special shout out to my dear friend Jody for pushing me on when I thought all hope was gone, and for being featured on violin on every track. Make sure you catch her amazing violin duet arrangement and dual performance on the final track Snowed Inside.

The first track off the record is a bittersweet waltz about a guy with everything except what he most desires, a partner to love and hold dear. Join me on this catch rhythmic number with real recorded instruments featuring: acoustic guitar, grand piano, bass, cajon, jingle bells and violin. No synths, no samples! Real instruments all performed and recorded by me, save for the lovely violin performance by Jody Onuma.

My original Christmas EP is being played on Radio Free Otaku in Delaware, US. Thanks so much for including my songs on your station.

Today is a very auspicious day for me. After a mighty effort, I have managed to record and produce my own 4 song Christmas EP. There was a steep learning curve. I recorded a real grand piano, guitar, violin, cajon and various other instruments, I learned orchestral orchestration, digital audio editing, mixing and mastering, and so much more. It was a very challenging time, but I am proud to say that today my EP has been uploaded for distribution. There is still some processing to happen, but the release is now officially scheduled for Dec 1st 2023! I worked very hard on this, but I could not have done it without the support and encouragement of my friends, family and coworkers. A very special thanks goes out to my dear friend, manager, co-producer and violin part writer/performer Jody Onuma. I could not have done this without her guidance, and wisdom. I want to send a special thanks to my co-workers at UVIC for encouraging me and lending me technical advice. One of these coworkers, Benjamin Groom, came in at the last minute to help me track essential lead vocals when I needed help the most (sciatic back injury.) Thanks as always to Ana-Elisa Fine Arts for her longtime friendship, encouragement and graphic design support. Thanks goes out to my vocal mentor Alexandra Berg for her coaching. Special thanks to Kathleen from Little Thai Place on Shelbourne for counselling me over Thai Food and Pho when I get overwhelmed.
