UVic Rocketry Back-to-Campus 2021

UVic is transitioning back to in-person classes for the Fall 2021 semester and we can't wait to welcome all the future new Rocketry members to the team!

This fall we're putting our energy into recruitment and getting new members up to speed with skills and projects. If you're a UVic student that's keen to help design and build high-powered rockets, send us a message or check out our table at the UVSS Clubs Days (Wednesday Sept 15 & Thursday Sept 16, 10am-4pm in the SUB). UVic Rocketry stays busy during COVID-19!
While our usual June rocketry competition may have been cancelled this year, we are nonetheless busy and having fun at home!

While most of the team was away for competition, we thankfully were able to send a team member to represent UVic Rocketry at last week’s 3rd Annual Youth Engineering Competition hosted by our sponsor Rainhouse Manufacturing! We're very proud of all our team members' hard work and passion that helped us win the People's Choice award for best engineering team. Rainhouse Manufacturing was responsible for machining Hyak-2's fin feet, which were redesigned in an effort to prevent the fin tearout that brought down Hyak-1 prematurely last year. In a prime example of our resilience and ability to learn from our failures, Hyak-2's fins stayed on through speeds of Mach 1.5 and were recovered undamaged! We hope we managed to inspire someone during the event, from young minds to the rocket enthusiasts that left talking about starting their own small-scale hybrid propulsion rocket experiments. We are additionally thankful to everyone who expressed interest in supporting the team through sponsorships and mentoring and look forward to future collaboration! @rainhousecanada

UVR Resin Infusion
Check out this time lapse of a resin infusion being done by our Aerostructure team. The final product will be used to help create our nosecone, coupler, fins, and possibly even our fuselage! Fun fact: a resin infusion is a method of composite manufacturing that uses vacuum pressure to pull epoxy resin through the material.

Happy Canada 150 from UVic Rocketry and the Canadian teams at the Spaceport America Cup! This video was taken during a group photo of Canadian teams that resulted in a spontaneous, joyous rendition of O Canada.
