The Bank of Canada finally dropped the overnight rate by a quarter point to 4.75% during the June rate announcement earlier this month.

This rate essentially dictates the cost that Canadian banks borrow money from each other at the end of each business day. Though changes in this value can indirectly influence fixed rates through the reaction of the bond yield… the overnight rate primarily and more directly impacts variable rate mortgages.

The next BOC rate announcement will take place on July 24th so stay tuned 👀
