Today is #PlasticsThursday of #WasteReductionWeek! #Didyouknow? The 1950s is when there was a massive increase of growth in plastic production. For companies, plastic was convenient, cheap, and available. It became a main element in manufacturing packaging, containers, and even parts of a product! Since then, more than 8.3 billion metric tonnes of plastic has been generated around the world. Plastics take forever to degrade, and can end up in our lands and our water, hurting us and the animals - Like these Sturgeons! Can you find these sturgeons in our Sustainable Exhibit?

The theme for this year’s International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies is #HealthyAirHealthyPlanet . Today is a reminder to prioritize the need for healthy air, and keeping an open dialogue on climate change, human and planetary health, and sustainable development. A portion of our new exhibit “Sustainable Development: Caring for Our Common Future”, talks about how hydropower is a clean, renewable energy resource. Hydropower produces low levels of greenhouse emissions, making it less than one percent of Manitoba’s greenhouse gas production in 2019. Find out more by visiting our museum! #renewableenergy #hydropower #clearnair #newexhibit #sustainabledevelopment
