Après dix ans passés dans le groupe, notre ami et guitariste Diogo Almeida a récemment décidé de quitter Impure Wilhelmina, faute de temps. Deux albums et un EP enregistrés ensemble, ainsi qu’un paquet de tournées et de concerts en Europe: nous sommes très reconnaissants pour cette longue implication et ces années intenses au sein d’Impure Wilhelmina. Nous lui souhaitons tout le meilleur pour la suite, notamment aux côtés de nos frères d’armes Rorcal!

Comme nous n’avons pas prévu de nous reposer, nous sommes ravis d’annoncer dès maintenant l’arrivée d’Edouard Nicod à la guitare. Nos chemins ne s’étaient jamais croisés avant cet automne, même si Ed n’est pas un nouveau venu dans notre scène régionale. Allez notamment écouter son groupe Algebra! On se réjouit d’ouvrir ce nouveau chapitre ensemble, qui commencera par une tournée européenne en février 2024. Un nouvel album est aussi en route. Bienvenue Ed!

After ten years with the band, our friend and guitarist Diogo Almeida has recently decided to leave Impure Wilhelmina, due to lack of time. Two albums and an EP recorded together, as well as many tours and shows in Europe: we are very grateful for this long involvement and these intense years shared within Impure Wilhelmina. We wish him all the best for the future, especially with our brothers in arms Rorcal!

As we have no will to rest, we are delighted to announce the arrival of Edouard Nicod on guitar! Our paths had never crossed before this autumn, even though Ed is no newcomer to our regional scene. Check out his other main musical project, Algebra! We're looking forward to opening this new chapter together, starting with a European tour in February 2024. A new album is also on the way. Welcome Ed!

The track is taken from our upcoming EP 'Dead Decades', which comes out on October 6, 2023 via Season of Mist.

King Crimson is a band we all listen to regularly in Impure Wilhelmina, and the song Fallen Angel was quickly unanimously approved. We didn't really know what it would sound like to cover such a prog monument. We were surprised when we started working on it to see how well it suited our harmonic style. We're particularly proud of this cover. Hope you'll enjoy it 🖤

What do you think of the DEAD DECADES cover?

The photo was taken by the talented Mehdi Benkler. We were looking for a place marked by the passage of time, with a strong hint of nostalgia. Michael spotted this abandoned house near Geneva airport. The area is so affected by aircraft noise, which has been increasing steadily for decades, that nobody wants to live there anymore! We immediately loved the atmosphere. And the photo sublimely captures this feeling of desolation.

LA JAVANAISE

Serge Gainsbourg, one of the major figures of twentieth-century French music, has been around us for a very long time, even if his musical universe is far removed from our own. La Javanaise is one of his greatest (and least subversive) classics, published in 1963. This heavy cover of a song written before metal even existed contrasts with the light-hearted romanticism of the lyrics. It fits perfectly with the spirit of Impure Wilhelmina.

About ten years ago, additional drawings were made for a never-released gatefold vinyl version. That's now done! The record has been remastered by the great Serge Morattel at REC Studio, who recorded and mixed the album 20 years ago.

Presented at the time as “the most desperate band in Geneva”, Impure Wilhelmina released their second album, I Can’t Believe I Was Born In July, in 2003. Listening to it, one realizes that this description was not usurped.
A subtle carcass of what could already be described as “post-metal” in the early 2000s, there is something tense, emotional and definitely dark in these 11 tracks. Clouded violence, abysmal melancholy, falsely serene lulls, and almost unbearable sincerity. Unusually introspective and disturbing lyrics, as sensitive as they are deeply misanthropic.
Never released on vinyl before, it is now done, in a remastered version, for the 20th anniversary of this fierce monster.

Présenté à l'époque comme « le groupe le plus désespéré de Genève », Impure Wilhelmina ont sorti leur deuxième album, I Can’t Believe I Was Born In July, en 2003 et en l'écoutant, on se rend vite compte que cette description leur allait particulièrement bien.
Cet album est une subtile carcasse de ce qui pourrait déjà être qualifié de « post-metal » au début des années 2000 avec quelque chose de tendu, d'émotionnel et définitivement sombre dans ces 11 pistes. Une violence nuageuse, une mélancolie abyssale, des accalmies faussement sereines et une sincérité presque insupportable. Des paroles inhabituellement introspectives et troublantes, aussi sensibles que profondément misanthropes.
Jamais sorti auparavant en vinyle, c'est maintenant chose faite dans une version remastérisée, à l'occasion du 20ème anniversaire de ce monstre féroce.
