Klepsydra by Marc Newson | By reinterpreting the principles of a 'water clock', Klepsydra is an object of apparent simplicity that hides a complex mechanism. It delivers an accurate measurement of a 30-minute period of time.

Thanks to its mastery of the art of thermal oxidation of metals, De Bethune raises the level of complexity once again by bluing millions of nanoballs in polished steel. The blue colour results from the heat released by the chemical reactions of the heated steel. The reaction requires extreme cleanliness of the metals, a precise process only known to watchmakers.

Introducing the designer behind HG Timepiece

Marc Newson, CBE, has been described as one of the most influential designers of his generation. He has been fascinated by time his entire life. HG Timepiece was founded with the vision of expressing Marc’s design philosophy through timepieces.

The timepieces imagined by Marc Newson are inspired by ancient objects. They recognise the passing of time as a meditative experience, increased by the multi-sensorial experience of the designs.

Each Klepsydra contains over 2.8 million silver- or gold-plated stainless-steel nanoballs which measure the elapsed time. A full cycle takes 30 minutes from the start.
