Today, on World Children's Day, we are proud to announce that has raised CHF 100'000 for UNICEF to help improve children's well-being 💙

For 40 days over the past two months, our around the world took part in various sports activities, engaging in a company-wide challenge to stay fit, have fun and do good at the same time 🚴‍♀️⛹️‍♀️🤸‍♂️🧘‍♂️🏋️‍♀️

The challenge was part of the initiative to promote the physical and mental well-being of our employees. The raised funds will be used to support the well-being of children in Syria and Türkiye who were affected by the severe earthquakes in February 2023.

has collected 155kg of plastic caps to be delivered to Banco de Tapitas A.C., a non-profit organization that collects, stores and recycles plastic caps with the aim of generating diverse resources to support programs for children 🎗️

ROBUST GROWTH IN ORDER INTAKE ☑️

’s order intake amounted to CHF 2.805 billion in the first nine months of 2023, on which the strengthening of the Swiss Franc had a negative impact of CHF 0.2 billion. Hence, in local currencies (i.e., adjusted for acquisition / disposal effects), order intake amounts to above CHF 3.0 billion 📈

In local currencies (see above), the order intake growth represents an increase of 18.0% compared to the same period one year ago. All three business divisions contributed double-digit growth to Sulzer’s order intake in 2023 🔧🔬

SCALABLE RENEWABLE ENERGY STORAGE ♻️

We are thrilled to contribute to the world's first pilot plant for in molten hydroxide salts 🔌

Sulzer and expertise has been selected by an industrial research consortium for a pilot plant intended to validate the commercial viability of storing renewable energy in molten hydroxide salts. Situated in Esbjerg, Denmark, the Molten Salts Storage ( ) plant is being built for scalability to ultimately permit a storage capacity of one Gigawatt hour (GWh). This allows the system to store the equivalent daily electricity consumption of some 73’000 Swiss homes, which ultimately provides stability for the grid. At this capacity, the plant is projected to deliver annual CO2 savings of 32’000 tonnes per GWh of capacity 🏭 🇩🇰

Dolores Alvarez joined as an Intern in 2012 after completing her degree in Chemical Engineering at the Universities of Sevilla (Spain) and Swansea (U.K.), where she completed an exchange year through the program. She spent five years working in research and development before moving to applications, and is now a Senior Application Manager 👩‍🔬🙎

Dolores enjoyed developing her strong technical knowledge base while working with in the lab, but she also wanted to interact with customers and understand their needs. The move to applications wasn't an easy transition for her, but says the combination of technical and commercial aspects is precisely what she enjoys most now 🔬

COLLABORATING WITH ANDRITZ TO MAKE BIOMETHANOL 💚 🇫🇮

We are thrilled to be collaborating with ANDRITZ to support production of 12’000 tons of per year at the world largest plant in Finland 🏭

Sulzer and have been selected to enable biomethanol production at the new Veolia plant in Äänekoski, Finland. The separation technology will be integrated with ANDRITZ’s biomethanol purification concept. Veolia will utilize the purification solution to convert raw pulp mill waste into commercial grade biomethanol suitable for a range of industries such as the transportation and chemical sectors. 🌳

Barry Davies joined 16 years ago at our site in Aberdeen, Scotland, following a chance encounter that brought him into the Oil & Gas industry. He is now the Operations Manager of our Dubai facility 🌐

For Barry, things can and do change in an instance, and he believes the key to a successful career is to be flexible and learn how to adapt. After joining Sulzer in 2007 as , Barry serviced rigs in the North Sea for seven years before changing companies to gain experience with other rotating equipment. He returned to Sulzer in 2019, again based in Aberdeen, but was often required to travel to the Middle East for commissioning and overhaul activities – which is where he learned how to large teams on customer sites 🦾
