My short story:

So, I got a message from a potential client who saw my profile from LinkdIn. He was looking for a VA to create videos for his YouTube channel and also create content for his LinkedIn and X account. We had a zoom meeting to discuss his needs and requirements.

Here are his requirements 👇

✅ 2 YouTube videos every weeks
✅ Create contents everyday on his LinkedIn and X pages. Contents include graphics, carousel, reels, captions, etc
✅Get leads from LinkedIn.
Plus he gets to approve each content before it goes live.

He will provide the tools to work with.

I asked his budget for the project, he turned it around on me to ask what I charge. So I told him 1k $/ month.

He smiled and said it's above his budget that he is willing to pay 100$/month because he is providing the tools and he pays at the end of the month only. Plus according to him, he had already spoken with some other person who is willing to accept the job and the money.

I simply told him the job is too much for that pay and it's below my pay range. So I rejected the offer. I already have monetized a YT channel with 11k subs and the second channel is almost monetized, 1k subs. So I do have some real experience.

He thought for a while and proposed 75k fcfa to be given after the job is done. I guess he had done his research on the conversion rate from dollars to FCFA .

That was a big red flag to me. So I said to him "sorry I don't think I will be a good fit for you as of the moment, however, when your budget is within our pay range, then give us a call".

NOTE: A client who wants to work with you, will work with you simple especially if you're professional and have proof of work.

I know I need clients but I also want to be paid a reasonable amount for a tedious job like that. The fact that a I'm in Africa doesn't mean the skill you provide is any less than an American or European Freelancer.

That Why I teach others not to waste their time with such clients who might sometimes turn out to be scams but instead take that time to build their own brand on social media, gain authority in your niche and then the right clients will find you.

Note: You need just one REAL client that will pay you your worth.
