AMENORHRIA (ABSENCE OF MENSTRUATION). CAUSES AND TREATMENT:
Amenorrhea is the absence of menstruation (missing one or more periods).
Women who who have missed 3 menstrual periods in a row have amenorrhea, same with girls age 15 who haven't begun menstruation.
CAUSES OF AMENORRHEA
There are many factors that can cause amenorrhea. Some amenorrhea are normal at some point in a woman's life. Such as pregnancy and menopause, while side effects of medication and other underlying health issues may cause amenorrhea.
1. Natural cause of amenorrhea can be: Menopause, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
NB. If you are not pregnant, not breastfeeding and you haven't reached menopause, the causes maybe;
- birth control pills
- contraceptive implants
- stress
- low body weight
- Antipsychotics
- Cancer chemotherapy
- Antidepressants
- Blood pressure drugs
- Allergy medications
- excessive exercise
2. HORMONAL IMBALANCE
Hormonal imbalance is one of the leading causes of amenorrhea. The following can cause hormonal imbalance:
- Premature menopause.
- polycystic o***y syndrome
- pituitary tumor that cause hyperprolactinemia
- thyroid malfunction
3. STRUCTURAL CAUSES
- Uterine scarring: Asherman's syndrome, a condition in which scar tissue builds up in the lining of the uterus, can sometimes occur after a dilation and curettage (D&C), cesarean section or treatment for
- Uterine fibroids: Uterine scarring prevents the normal buildup and shedding of the uterine lining.
- Lack of reproductive organs. Sometimes problems arise during fetal development that lead to a girl being born without some major part of her reproductive system, such as her uterus, cervix or va**na. Because her reproductive system didn't develop normally, she can't have menstrual cycles.
- Structural abnormality of the va**na. An obstruction of the va**na may prevent visible menstrual bleeding. A membrane or wall may be present in the va**na that blocks the outflow of blood from the uterus and cervix.
CAUSES OF SHORTNESS OF BREATH (DIFFICULTIES BREATHING)
Shortness of breath, is when a person has a sudden or frequent difficulties in breathing. A shortness of breath crisis can last from a minute to hours depending on the underlying causes. Some shortness of breath are accompanied with congestion and chest pain, and headaches.
Most cases of shortness of breath are due to heart or lung conditions (though there are many other factors). Your heart and lungs are involved in transporting oxygen to your tissues and removing carbon dioxide, and problems with either of these processes affect your breathing.
Shortness of breath that comes on suddenly (called acute) has a limited number of causes, including:
-Asthma (bronchospasm)
-Carbon monoxide poisoning
-Cardiac tamponade (excess fluid around the heart)
-Heart attack
-Heart failure
-Low blood pressure (hypotension)
-Pneumonia (and other pulmonary infections)
-Pneumothorax (collapsed lung)
-Pulmonary embolism (blood clot in an artery in the lung)
-Sudden blood loss
-Upper airway obstruction (blockage in the breathing passage)
In the case of shortness of breath that has lasted for weeks or longer (called chronic), the condition is most often due to:
Asthma
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
Deconditioning
Heart dysfunction
Interstitial lung disease
Obesity
A number of other health conditions also can make it hard to get enough air. These include:
Lung problems
Croup (especially in young children)
Lung cancer
Pleurisy (inflammation of the membrane surrounding the lungs)
Pulmonary edema (excess fluid in the lungs)
Pulmonary fibrosis (scarred and damaged lungs)
Pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure within the lungs' blood vessels)
Sarcoidosis (collections of inflammatory cells in the body)
Tuberculosis
Heart problems
Cardiomyopathy (problem with the heart muscle)
Heart arrhythmias (heart rhythm problems)
Heart failure
Pericarditis (inflammation of the tissue around the heart)
