ENERGIZED PRAYER

So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed (Acts 19:20).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME

If you desire certain changes in your life, your city, state or nation, you can make it happen through effectual prayers—praying with passion. Paul knew howto pray effectively; that was what changed Ephesus andother places where he ministered.

Paul was in Ephesus for two years and three months, and during that period, he shook up the whole place. The Bible says, “And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds” (Acts 19:18). In other words, they gave up idolatry and their heathen practices and openly confessed the lordship of Jesus.

The 19th verse says those who had been into magic and cults were converted to Christ. How was Paul able to achieve this? He gave us an idea when he said in 1 Corinthians 15:32, “If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me….”

When you study the context, you don't find where he personally encountered beasts or was physically attacked by wild beasts. Evidently, Paul was speaking spiritually. He was referring to something that happened in the spirit. Recall what we read in our theme verse: “So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.”

The Gospel prevailed in Ephesus because Paul understood how to pray with passion, how to prevail in the spirit through prayer. The Bible says, “...The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16). The phrase “effectual fervent” is “energeō” (Greek), and it means “energized.” In other words, the “energized” prayer of a righteous man avails much. Hallelujah!

To drive this point home, James gives us the example of Elijah’s prayer and says, Elijah “prayed earnestly”(James 5:17). The phrase “prayed earnestly” literally means that Elijah “prayed with prayer,” giving it a Hebraistic form of emphasis. He was talking about the intensity of Elijah’s

*GODLINESS DEFINED*

_(Exercise Yourself In Godly Character)_

*TO THE BIBLE:*
*1 Timothy 4:7 NIV*
_“Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.”_

*LET’S TALK*

The word *“godly”* above actually means piety towards God, piety to spiritual or godly activities. It means devotion. It doesn’t refer to inner righteousness or inherent holiness. It’s about the things you do, how you respond to God, and to the things of God. For instance, there’s a way you ought to behave when you come into the house of God because church isn’t like everywhere else. It’s a place of worship. There’s an attitude of reverence you ought to have when you come to church.

Godliness is about your demeanour. Your dressing matters; some piety is necessary in your dressing. There’s a decency that goes with the Spirit of God, and that decency must be in your life. There’re outward things that people should see in you and say, *“Yes, this is a Christian.”* They can’t see it in your heart but can see it in your character. That’s what godliness is about. There’re movies you shouldn’t watch. There’re books or magazines you shouldn’t read. There’re places you just shouldn’t be found in, because you’re different.

And if for any reason you find yourself in such places, you ought to go in there with godly piety. Yes, that’s the life you’ve been called to live. Your presence in a place should exude and transmit the righteousness of God, for you’re a tree of righteousness, producing fruits of righteousness. Never lose sight of who you are; you’re different. You’re the symbol and embodiment of God’s glory, perfection, beauty, and righteousness.

See and carry yourself as such: always remember that *“...you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God’s] own purchased, special people, that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the vir

SAVED BY HIS RESURRECTION

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME

In Romans 10:9, the Bible says, “…if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” It lets us know that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is where Christianity came from.

To be a Christian, you’ve got to believe in the resurrection. If you don't believe in the resurrection, you can't believe in the death, because the death had to occur before the resurrection. Actually, the best rendering of Romans 10:9 is, “If you’ll confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you’ll be saved.”

You may say, “Pastor Chris, but it says you confess first and then you believe next.” No; you believe first before you confess. That's the principle. The next verse explicitly clarifies it: “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10). Hallelujah!

When you believe with your heart, you’re made right with God. We believed in Jesus Christ and we were given right standing, and with the confession of His lordship, we were catapulted into salvation. That’s the simple principle.

2 Corinthians 4:13 says, “We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak.” It shows that you believe, and then you speak. Every man, woman, boy and girl ever born, and that’ll ever be born into this world has already been legally “saved” by Jesus Christ. When He died, He died to save all humanity. But that salvation becomes a vital experience—active—in the life of the one who believes, not only that Jesus died, but that He was raised from the dead for our justification.

*GOD-LIKE THINKING*

_(Get Your Thoughts Directly From God’s Word)_

*TO THE BIBLE:*
*Romans 12:2 NASB*
_“...Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”_

*LET'S TALK*

As a Christian, it’s important how you think and what you think about. You’re not of this world; therefore, you shouldn’t think like an ordinary person. Don’t say, *“I’m American, or I’m Australian, as a result, there’s a way I think.”* No! When you’re born again, you cease to be of your earthly nativity, because your spirit is recreated. You should therefore only think the Word way. God’s Word must form the basis for the kind of thoughts you process and allow. Now that you’re in Christ, you have a new culture: the Christ culture. Until this becomes a reality in your spirit, you’ll live like an ordinary person and not experience the sublime blessings of life in Christ.

The Bible says, *“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new”* (2 Corinthians 5:17). You’re of a new lineage and heritage. Refuse to be described by any earthly culture or affiliation. If you must be identified as Zulu, Afrikaans, American, British, German, French, Nigerian, etc., let it be because you want to win those of such descent to Christ.

That’s how the Apostle Paul puts it. He said, *“To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might gain Jews; to those who are under the Law, I became as one under the Law, though not being under the Law myself, so that I might gain those who are under the Law”* (1 Corinthians 9:20 NASB).

Our opening verse, in the New International Version, says, *“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind….”* As you meditate on the Word, your mind is pr

PRODUCTS OF HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS

And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness (Ephesians 4:24).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME

2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Being born again, we’re the exact manifestation of the righteousness of God. A dog gives birth to a dog. Likewise, when God in His infinite righteousness gave birth to us, we became the righteousness of God.

We’re the product of His righteousness; we’re His righteousness manifested! Declare this about yourself every so often. When you say it, it’s not a boast; you’re simply affirming truth—you’re declaring who you are in Christ!

This is different from the gift of righteousness by which you stand in the presence of God to receive eternal life. When you were born again, you were recreated in righteousness. The Bible says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature…” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

This new creature, as read in our opening verse, was created in righteousness and true holiness. The Amplified Classic calls it “true righteousness” (Ephesians 4:24). Hallelujah! In other words, no more shadow or figure of righteousness. You’re God-like in true righteousness and holiness. What a blessing! Live with this consciousness and walk in glory and dominion over circumstances, every day.

CONFESSION
I’ve received true righteousness; I’m now God-like in true righteousness and holiness, superior to Satan, his demons and circumstances! And by the power of Jesus Christ, the whole world is subdued before me in absolute dominion. Hallelujah!

*AS HE IS, SO ARE YOU*

_(You’re In The Same Class As Jesus)_

*TO THE BIBLE:*
*Mark 4:38-39,41 NIV*
_“Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm…They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!””_

*LET'S TALK*

The Lord Jesus, when He walked the earth, was a marvel and master over circumstances. One day, the disciples, in awe of Him, asked the question we read in our opening verse. This was after He hushed a billowing tempest to sleep. On another occasion, the disciples had sailed far out at sea when they suddenly saw a figure walking towards them on the water; it was Jesus. Again, they wondered, *“What manner of man is this that defies nature?”*

Think about His ascension to heaven! He simply levitated and went through the clouds into heaven. It pays to know who Jesus really is. Until you know Him, you can’t have true faith in Him, and you wouldn’t know yourself. Here’s something most extraordinary: anyone who believes in Jesus receives the same life that He has. John 1:12-13 says, *“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God… who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”*

Notice that the latter part says you’re born of God, meaning that you’re born of the same Word that became Jesus. 1 Peter 1:23 says, *“Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.”* James 1:18 NIV says, *“He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.”* We’re in the same class and manner of men as Jesus, because we’re offsprin

YOU’RE A WORD PRACTITIONER

_(You’ve Been Called To Practise God’s Word)_

TO THE BIBLE:
Ephesians 5:25-27
_“…Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her…that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.”_

LET’S TALK

Our heavenly Father desires that His children walk in the consciousness of His righteousness. God’s gift of righteousness is what sets us apart from the Old Testament folks: they had God’s Word which they were commanded to obey but, as Christians, we’re different! In the Old Testament, they were called to obey the Word; but in the New Testament, we’re Word practitioners; we’re the expression of the Word; it’s called the mirror principle. God’s idea is that if He shows you who you are, you’d live accordingly.

Therefore, when you come across a verse such as Ephesians 4:25: “Therefore, putting away lying, “let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another,” you act exactly as He said by putting lying away. The mirror shows you as one who puts lying away, so do it. It’s not a commandment. In the Old Testament, it was a commandment not to lie; but in the New Testament, we do the Word and walk in truth.

The Bible says “...the law is not made for a righteous person...” (1 Timothy 1:9), and we’re God’s righteous ones (Romans 1:17). In the Old Testament, He gave them laws, but in the New Testament, He gave us His nature, His life of righteousness, so we can live right. It explains why if you did something that isn’t consistent with your nature of righteousness, you’re troubled from within.

By your own spirit, you’re able to tell and judge, because of His light in you. This is why we teach righteousness so God’s people can become conscious of who they are in Christ and live accordingly.

FAITH THAT CONQUERS THE WORLD

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (1 John 5:4).

The verse above in the Amplified Classic says, “For whatever is born of God is victorious over the world; and this is the victory that conquers the world, even our faith.” It’s talking about faith from God, from His eternal Word to our spirit! That’s the faith that conquers the world!

Romans 12:3 says, “...God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.” Hallelujah! Then in Romans 10:17, it says, “...faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” This is why it’s important that you expose your spirit to the Word.

The more you hear or study the Word, the more faith comes to you; faith to rule your world. With that faith, you have dominion over circumstances and victory over the world and its systems. However, faith not expressed won’t prevail. You express your faith in words and actions, for the Bible says faith speaks!

Rule your world with your faith-filled words. Your words have force; they have energy. If someone says to you, “But you’ve been speaking the Word for some time now, and nothing is changing.” Remind them of what the Bible says: “If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth...” (Ecclesiastes 11:3).

Keep speaking the Word in faith and watering your clouds with prayers. As you do, the spiritual cloud becomes thick with spiritual water, and nothing can stop the downpour! Blessed be God!

CONFESSION
The Lord is strong and mighty, and He’s with me and in me! I put my trust in Him alone, and rest my faith on His Word. Irrespective of the challenges in the world today, my faith is the victory that conquers the world! All things are possible to him that believes and I believe; therefore, all things are possible to me. Glory to God!

BE VIGILANT

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition (2 Thessalonians 2:3).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME

In John 5:43, Jesus said, “I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.” Our underlined portion sounds like a supposition but it’s not. It’s actually in the affirmative when you study the Greek rendering.

The word “another” in that verse doesn’t come from “heteros” (Greek), but from “allos” (Greek). This clearly means that Jesus was prophesying about the “pseudochristos”—a false Christ; one who falsely lays claim to the name and office of the Messiah. Jesus did teach that there’d be false Christs and false prophets.

When you read in the epistles (such as 1 John 2:18), the term used is “antichrist” which is “antichristos” in Greek, meaning instead of Christ, against Christ, one who puts himself in the place of Christ or opposes Christ. This lines up with the “pseudochristos.”So, when Jesus said, “…if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive,” He knew what He was talking about. Sadly, some today are willing to demonstrate magnanimity and incredulity towards fake news and wrong doctrines, while unwilling to accept real truth.

The Bible tells us the antichrist will be a deceiver and a liar, and that major religious leaders will endorse him. But that's no surprise. There were people like that in Bible days who endorsed the false prophets and killed God's prophets (Matthew 23:31). It's the same in the world today; many have chosen to be deceived.

Satan’s modus operandi is based on deception with misrepresentations. Therefore, remain vigilant. The Bible says, “Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience” (Ephesians

_“After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”_

*LET’S TALK*

The underlined words spoken by God to Abraham in our opening verse reminds me of what He said later to Aaron in Numbers 18:20: *“…I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel.”* We understand from the Scriptures that the Lord apportioned inheritance to the different tribes of Israel except for the Levites, to whom He said, *“I am your inheritance.”*

How rich can you get when the Lord is your inheritance? How glorious would your life be? Psalm 24:1 says, *“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.”* Since this is true, then the earth and everything in it belong to you because you’re His heir. Paul understood this and said, *“...all things are yours”* (1 Corinthians 3:21).

Now you can understand why your prayer times shouldn’t be spent asking God for things for yourself. What do you want to ask of one who’s already given you everything, including Himself? You have Christ, and Christ is everything. This truth should change your mentality and life forever. Is it strength you require? The Bible says He’s your strength! Therefore, testify like the Psalmist, *“…The LORD is the strength of my life...”* (Psalm 27:1).

Is it wisdom you think you need? The Bible says Christ is your wisdom (1 Corinthians 1:30). You’ve been granted all that you require for life and godliness; you’ve been launched into a life of glory, excellence and superabundance. No wonder the Psalmist exclaimed, *“The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a good inheritance”* (Psalm 16:6). All things are yours!
