The inaugural speaker for "Transnational and Situated" has just been confirmed! Laying a very solid and influential foundation for the series indeed :) More details about the arrangement of the online event will be released next week!
Starting from February, we will host several established academics from different disciplines, and their views on contemporary cultural issues will be different and diverse. "Transnational and Situated" accommodates a wide range of political and cultural viewpoints as long as they resonate with different audiences concerned with transnational cultural production. With the support of these established figures, we will then move on to include and present junior scholars in pairs to have the most stimulating conversations about their latest research!
“Transnational and Situated" is a research seminar series open to academics, college students and the wider public. Invited professors and young scholars will deliver lectures, participate in intellectual exchanges, and share their experiences to promote transnational studies of culture. Presented in a mixture of online and offline formats, the speakers will discuss the dialectic relationship between transnationality and situatedness in specific social phenomena and cultural products, covering disciplines like comparative literature, film criticism, cultural history and cultural anthropology etc. This seminar series is initiated and hosted by Professor Flair Donglai SHI at the Institute of Arts and Humanities, Shanghai Jiaotong University. Each seminar will most likely feature two scholars who will present their research and dialogue with each other and with the audience. Our working languages are Chinese and English. Please do get in touch if you are interested in participating in our events or helping with the planning and design.
