🪱💛Heartworm, also known as dirofilariasis, is a serious and potentially fatal disease that can affect dogs, cats, and ferrets. 🚨It's caused by a blood-borne parasite called Dirofilaria immitis that's transmitted to dogs through the bite of an infected mosquito. 🫣The larvae from the mosquito can grow to be up to a foot long and develop into adult heartworms over 6 to 7 months.
➡️Early stages of heartworm infection may not show symptoms, but as the disease progresses, dogs may exhibit signs such as:
📍Coughing
📍Lethargy
📍Difficulty breathing
📍Exercise intolerance
📍Weight loss
📍Decreased appetite
📍Enlarged abdomen due to fluid accumulation

🚨What happens to a dog when left in a hot car?
❌Leaving pets locked in cars is never safe. But when the weather gets warmer, it can be deadly. High temperatures can cause irreparable organ damage and even death. Protecting animals from an unnecessary death is a problem we can all agree to prevent. ❌Your vehicle can quickly reach a temperature that puts your pet at risk of serious illness and even death, even on a day that doesn't seem hot to you. .

1️⃣ Repel Mosquitoes on Your Dog
Speak to your vet about choosing a dog-friendly mosquito repellent.🔸 Some repellents come in spray form and must be applied to your dog before every outing (and reapplied every few hours), while other convenient options include monthly spot-on treatments.

🔸Never use a mosquito repellent meant for humans — many contain ingredients that are safe for people but extremely dangerous for pets.

2️⃣ Avoid Being Outside When Mosquitoes Are Most Active
While you may enjoy a morning or evening walk with your dog, you should avoid walking near still or stagnant water at dawn and dusk, when mosquitoes are most active. 🔸This will help prevent your dog — and you — from receiving excessive bites.

3️⃣ Repel Mosquitoes in Your Yard
Discourage mosquitoes from buzzing into your garden by treating your yard with a spray or adding natural mosquito deterrents like citronella candles. 🔸In addition, be on the lookout for stagnant water in your yard: Dog bowls, empty flower pots, bird baths, ponds, kiddie pools and improperly drained yards can all attract mosquitoes.

4️⃣ Check the Entrances to Your Home
Don’t make it easy for mosquitoes to enter your house. 🔸Check the screens on windows and doors for tears, and repair or replace as necessary.

5️⃣ Prevent Heartworm with Regular Medication
While these preventive measurements can reduce your dog’s exposure to mosquitoes, it’s nearly impossible to prevent mosquito bites entirely. 🔸That’s why giving your dog regular heartworm medication is vital to their health and safety. Consult your vet for their recommendations to protect your pet from a potentially dangerous bite

🚨Vaccines are preventative rather than curative. 🚨Vaccinations protect your pet from several highly contagious diseases such as canine distemper, parvovirus infection and respiratory tract infections. It also protects against transmissible diseases such as rabies that also pose a risk to humans.

✅️Core vaccines for dogs are those that protect against canine distemper virus (CDV), ✅️canine adenovirus (CAV) and the variants of canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2).
✅️Core vaccines for cats are those that protect against feline parvovirus (FPV), ✅️feline calicivirus (FCV) and ✅️feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1).

Let's talk about this...

📍Brushing your dog ventilates their coat, helping it grow healthy and strong and takes away old and damaged hair. 📍Grooming also ensures that your dog's skin can breathe and keeps down the level of grease in their coat. Too much grease can block pores and cause irritation and all sorts of skin problems.

▶️Also:

✅️Regular brushing stimulates the skin and distributes natural oils throughout your dog's coat. These oils are essential for maintaining a healthy, shiny, and moisturized coat. ✅️Additionally, brushing helps to remove dirt and debris, promoting good skin health and reducing the risk of skin infections.
