The blue color of the water is due to a phenomenon known as Mie scattering. When the acidic and neutral waters of two rivers meet, their aluminosilicate particles clump together, resulting in the right particle concentration/size to scatter light in the blue wavelengths of the spectrum. 🦋💧

The Blue Falls are a collection of 6 vibrant blue waterfalls - El Tepezquintle, Las Gemelas, La Celestial, La Turquesa, & La Pintada. Across the street is Catarata del Toro, one of CR's most impressive waterfalls cascading into an ancient volcanic crater. "What an amazing experience! Highly recommend Lucas for a true Costa Rican experience. After arriving in Costa Rica we decided not to rent a car. Lucas took us on three separate excursions. He made suggestions for places to see and was patient as we decided which were best for our age and ability. He was flexible and made stops along the way. He saw a sloth on the side of the road on the way to Poas and stopped so we could get out and take photos. He made suggestions on restaurants that we stopped at along the way.
