What vocabulary do I need to learn for IELTS Writing?
This is the question I often hear from my students.

In general, there is a list of the most commonly used words in academic texts called the Academic Word list. It was developed by Dr Coxhead and is freely available online. You will find a link in the description below, there are also tests to check how familiar you are with the words on the list.

So, although the academic word list is an excellent resource, learning this list alone is not enough to achieve your target score on IELTS as it does not include words related to specific topics.
