Happy Earth Day! 🌎🌍🌏 Our Primary School Student Council organized a special litter picking event at the end of the day today. This is a great example of students feeling empowered to use their voice to take action. Each class went outside and found as much rubbish/trash as they could during the last few minutes of the day. It's amazing what happens when we all work together towards the same goal! They also organised a poster competition with the theme of ‘planet vs plastic’. What's the connection between AI and wellness? Students in Ms Pierce's advisory group ['homeroom'] used ChatGPT to suggest some ideas for Wellness activities that could be done in 10 minutes. This resulted in different emotions being put around the room and students had to write something that was currently causing them to feel that emotion. Students were super engaged, and of course, teachers love it when they teach students how to use AI in affirming, ethical ways!

Ms Fueckel made the most of the snow last week and engaged her family to demonstrate this science lesson to her Grade 6 students. "Find something that you want to get out of bed for every day" Inspired by a great: John McFall, para-astronaut in training, spoke to Grade 5 about how passion, curiosity and dedication create results. We all have our challenges and unexpected downfalls - today's speaker gave us a real example of rising from these to even greater heights than he had let himself previously dream. As our Grade 5 students grow up and face unforeseen academic and personal challenges, we hope they remember this extraordinary afternoon and the inspiration of John McFall. John's story of achievement moves from bike accident to medal winning para-athlete to orthopaedic trauma surgeon to the first para-astronaut selected by the @europeanspaceagency. Oh, what a night! 🕺🏻💃🏾 The flares, the hair, polyester leisure suits and platform shoes: Parents and staff definitely had Saturday night fever at our out-of-sight 70s disco party! The taco truck was totally far-out, the flash mob of dancers got everyone boogy-ing down, and the choir performance was dynamite! We also had an epic DJ who kept us truckin' with the grooviest hits of the era! And let's talk about the threads - everyone looked totally rad in their bell-bottoms, tie-dye t-shirts and we even had some epic hair creations.🎉🎉 We hope you had a funky time like we did, transported back to a time when disco was king. Learn to communicate creatively for impact and engagement Students in Grade 5 have embarked on this year's Exhibition journey. To kick off the process, we traveled to 'Gasometer' in Oberhausen, to visit the Exhibition 'The Fragile Planet'. Aim of the trip was to experience the many ways in which people can communicate strong messages and ideas, using a wide variety of creative techniques. Regardless the topics our students will select in the coming week, whether connected to this particular Exhibition or not, we hope students can draw on this inspiration when they get ready to present their own work and ideas in May. Officially Wonderful Water 💧 At BIS, we’re always working to make sure that we’re filling our brains and our hearts with the right stuff. But did you know that your brain and heart are both around 73% water? The water we drink becomes part of us: it affects how we think, how we feel, and who we are. If we want to be the most awesome versions of ourselves, proper hydration is important! Every year, BIS gets all the drinking water in the school tested by the Uniklinik Bonn. They take samples from many different sinks within the school and test whether there are any chemicals or bacteria present in the water, whether the water contains traces of various metals, they even check the exact temperature of each tap. And we’re proud to say that, as always, our water is officially wonderful. ✨ As well as having our water clinically tested, we also have regular inspections by certified engineers on our ventilation systems, electrical installations, fire alarm system, emergency lighting, evacuation system, fire extinguishers, elevators… and more!
