Englisch durch Kunst
'Englisch durch Kunst' is a course for young children to learn English through Art.
Last week in EDK (Englisch durch Kunst) with Grade 3&4 in Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig, we read the 4th book of the Talisman Series 1 by Phonic Books, called, 'Deep Sea Danger'. This time the Talisman turns Zak into a sea turtle to protect his friend from the jellyfish. Then step by step together, we drew cute Turtles!
This book is perfect for introducing the 'er' sound.
Last week in, 'Englisch durch Kunst', (Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig), we read, 'Charlie Cook's Favourite Book', by Julia Donaldson. Then we focused on the pirate story within the book and made pirate ships and sang a jolly pirate tune 🏴☠️ 🎶.
Last week in EDK (Englisch durch Kunst) in Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig, we read one of my favourite stories, 'We're going on a Bear Hunt'. Then we made origami bears and went on a musical bear hunt! 🐻
The repititive rhyme and sounds in this story, encourages the children to verbally engage with the storytelling ☺️.
Englisch durch Kunst (EDK) is also offering a new course this year in Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig, for Year 3&4 students. It is based on, 'The Talisman' series from, 'Phonics Books'. The students are focusing on learning to draw the animals introduced in each book, through english instruction!
These books are great for introducing the 'ae, ee, oe' sounds.
Last week in EDK (Englisch durch Kunst) in Kettwig, Schmachtenbergschule, we read Elmer, made Patchwork Elephants and then danced like Elephants! 🐘
This is a great session for recapping/introducing colours 🌈 and learning the square shape.
After the summer break, I'm enjoying teaching my, 'Englisch durch Kunst AG' once more with new groups at Schmachtenberg Schule in Kettwig. First we read, 'Little Quack's, Hide and Seek', a game most children are familiar with and then we made ducks... quack quack! 🦆
This story pairs well with the, '5 Little Ducks' song and introduces numbers 1-5.
We celebrated the last session of EDK (at Schmachtenberg Schule) by reading Zog and making star medals, to congratulate the children on completing the course 👏. We finished by singing a song about shapes, inspired by the star theme, and had fun trying to find some around the classroom 🌟.
Enjoy the summer 😎 and I'll be back in August with a new course for Year 3/4!!!
This week in EDK (Schmachtenbergschule) we read 'Cave Baby' by Julia Donaldson. Cave Baby has a wonderful imagination and shows this creativity in his drawings of stone age animals. In the story he drew stars all over the Sabertooth Tiger, so I asked the children, "what could you do?" 🤔 Check out their amazing, creative results below 🐅👇👏
*This session is great for learning vocabulary relating to colours, shapes, lines and patterns
This week in EDK (Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig) we read, 'Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy'. Within the story the children discover many types of dogs, including a Dackel called 'Schnitzel von Krumm'. This was particularly amusing, especially when I explained that in English they are also know as, 'Sausage Dogs'! 🤣🌭. Then they made their own multicoloured sausage dogs and sang a song about pets 🎶.
This session is perfect for children to discuss what pets they have or would like 🐶🐱🐟🐁🐦.
This week in EDK (Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig) we read, 'The Snail and the Whale'. Then we made sea snails 🐌 from light clay and shells and finally took a dive into the music of the deep blue sea 🌊.
This is a great session to introduce rhyming words, such as snail, whale, tail and trail.
This week in EDK (Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig) we read 'Scattercat' from the classic Hairy Maclary series. Then we made origami cats, where the children had to concentrate on copying each paper fold, step by step... They literally were 'copycats'!
Cat craft is perfect to introduce the topic of pets, and certainly gets the children talking! 🐱🐶🐦🐠
This week in EDK we read, 'Mrs Wobble the Waitress', which is an inspiring story about turning a weakness into a marvelous spectacle; The Juggling Waiters! Then we made juggling clowns using split pins and finally 'clowned' about to music! 🎶
This is the perfect theme for Carnival 🤡
This week in EDK (Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig) we read, Jack and the Jelly Beanstalk, which is similar to the traditional story, but instead Jack buys magic 'jelly' beans, hence the Jelly beans growing on the Beanstalk! Then we made pictures using a mixture of skills and finally sang a song about the needs of a plant.
For extra fun, this book pairs well with the Bean Boozled game! 🤣🫘🤮
This week in EDK (Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig) we read, 'Monkey Puzzle', which is a story about a monkey trying to find his mum. Then the children enjoyed designing and making their own earrings or pendants! There are definitely some young designers in the making here 👏.
So, what is the connection between 'mum' and 'jewellery'? Mother's Day is just around the corner.... it's the perfect gift! 🥰🎁
This week in EDK (Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig) we read 'Bug Bear', which is a story about a bug 🪲 that is literally 'bugging' the bear 🐻. Then we made bear masks and got really creative drawing bugs. The children told me they enjoyed this because, "it's like drawing aliens!" 👽
Of course we couldn't end the session without dancing and singing to a little 'Bug n' Roll' 😂
This week in EDK (Schmachtenbergschule, Kettwig) we read a new take on the 3 Little Pigs story, 'Blow your nose, Big Bad Wolf!' Then we made 'snotty' pigs and had fun dancing and singing with them.
This is a great story for explaining visually how germs are spread, and can you guess our keyword?..... Tissue! 🤧🤣
Dieser EDK Kurs wird derzeit in der Schmachtenbergschule angeboten
There was a real 'buzz' about this week's EDK session.... First we read a book about a greedy bee, then we made buzzy bee puppets 🐝 and finally we sang and danced to a bee song!
Bee craft is perfect for introducing the 'ee' sound 👍
