Saravá gente! Heute spielt die legendäre brasilanische Band Nação Zumbi in dr brotfabrik in Frankfurt.

1993 nahmen Chico Science & Nação Zumbi ihr Debütalbum auf. Sie waren Teil der Mangue-Szene, die sich Anfang der 1990er Jahre in Recife als eine Art musikalischer Widerstand formierte. Manguebeat ist eine Mischung aus Rock, Hip Hop, Funk, Electronica und traditionellen Pernambuco-Rhythmen wie Maracatu, Ciranda und Coco.

Chico Science und Nação Zumbi verbanden auf originelle Weise regionale Stile aus Pernambuco und universelle Elemente, und wurden so zur Referenz für die brasilianische Musikszene, von den 1990er Jahren bis heute. Der charismatische Bandleader war an den ersten beiden Alben des Ensembles beteiligt - "Da Lama Ao Caos" (1994) und "Afrociberdelia" (1996) - sowie an zwei internationalen Tourneen, bevor er 1997 bei einem Autounfall ums Leben kam.

Nach dem tragischen Tod von Chico Science Setzte Nação Zumbi ihre musikalische Reise fort und hat seitdem zehn Alben veröffentlicht (wenn ich richtig gezählt habe). Im Jahr 2024 feiert die Band nun ihr dreißigjähriges Bestehen als eine Stimme des musikalischen Widerstands. Bis heute bleibt die Gruppe ihrer Tradition treu und präsentiert sozialkritische Texte, die Ungleichheiten aufzeigen und sich für kulturelle Vielfalt einsetzen. Da Oli Leicht sich eine wohlverdiente Auszeit gönnt, haben wir mit V.B.Kühl einen besonderen Gast eingeladen: Der Produzent & DJ zaubert aus seinem Rechner und einer Peripherie aus Keyboard, Percussion-Instrumenten, Effektgeräten und Drumpads lebendige elektronische Live-Sets.

Mit Veröffentlichungen auf renommierten Labels wie Tru Thoughts, Nervous Records und Afrinative Soul sowie Remixes für Künstler wie Anchorsong und Lakuta hat der Frankfurter die Aufmerksamkeit von Größen wie DJ Shadow auf sich gezogen… und im Duo mit Rabii Harnoune & V.B.Kühl geschmackvoll traditionelle nordafrikanische Gnawa-Musik mit modernen Club-Sounds verschmolzen.

Die Live-Sets von Volker, die ich bisher gesehen habe, waren geprägt von Funkiness, Floor-Tauglichkeit und Musikalität. Wow! What a sad, outrageous story. Hard to grasp how irresponsible, inhumane and despicable ALDA act. May they be held accountable. And may Paul get well again, find justice & inner peace and receive an appropriate compensation.

Hi all, Paul here.
Today I’m especially grateful to still be alive as I reflect on human decency, character & justice.
As you may remember, on the 29.02.2016 I almost lost my life while performing at Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance Utrecht festival, organized by his business associates at ALDA which was managed by Alan Hardenberg & David Lewis.
Since then, it was legally established that their disregard for basic safety standards in stage building & event safety led to my fall & therefore left me with multiple broken bones including my spine, traumatic brain injury & health problems for the rest of my life.
How can you cover an unmarked hole in the stage construction with fabric? How can there be an unmarked hole to begin with? Greed? Saving money at the cost of safety?
The legal responsibility is very clear; ALDA has been held accountable, but even after 8 years, they have never acknowledged any responsibility, not given a simple apology & have not paid any of the court-ordered compensation to cover the economic damages they caused, as ordered by the highest court in the Netherlands.
To the contrary, ALDA even tried to block the insurance to pay for my medical bills & that says everything about their character & decency.
On the positive side I learned a lot about survival and how to approach the everyday struggle caused by the severe injuries and the life-long impact on my health, to deal with it with positivity regardless of the continuing pain.
During the months I was in hospitals, everyone did their utmost to bring me back, I was treated with dignity, respect & care & for that I will be forever grateful.
All your support & well wishes encouraged me to stand up & walk again, it motivated me to an extent you will never understand & for that I will be forever grateful.
I discovered that love is the greatest power that exists & for the endless love and strength I was given by my wife Margarita, I will be forever grateful.
But nobody & nothing can give me back my health or make up for what my family & friends had to go through.
Even though they continue to hide from their responsibility I know for certain that justice will succeed in the end.

��Auch vier Jahre nach dem rassistischen Anschlag in Hanau geht der Kampf um Aufklärung, Gerechtigkeit, Erinnerung und Konsequenzen weiter. Meine Gedanken und meine Trauer sind bei den Opfern des rassistischen Anschlags vom 19. Februar 2020 und ihren Familien und Freunden. 🖤

Back in action tonight at Ono2. I will serve as a side-kick of Oli Leicht on 🎷+ fx & Oli Rubow on 🥁+fx. The concept of “Der Elektronische Salon” is simple: we will improvise in a club setting and explore the intersected sonic paths of electronic music, dub, jazz and other sonic galaxies. This is no concert, this is a live jam to dance to! 

𝗢𝗟𝗜 𝗥𝗨𝗕𝗢𝗪 Being influenced by jazz in the first place, drummer Oli Rubow has been moving between various electronic styles as well as improvised music since the late 1990s. He has worked with renowned artists such as Jazzanova, Henrik Schwarz, the HR and NDR Bigbands, Hellmut Hattler of Kraan and Guru Guru fame, De Phazz, the Fantastischen Vier and Cro. In addition to his work as a musician, he’s also active as a music pedagogue. He has published two books, runs the workshop series „Vom Zitat zum Ich“ in Drums & Percussion magazine, and teaches at Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. The drum and studio wizard will bring along a suitcase full of equipment and gimmicks and will process and embellish the DJ tracks live with his rhythms and sound effects.

𝗢𝗟𝗜 𝗟𝗘𝗜𝗖𝗛𝗧 has been fascinated by woodwind instruments and electronic effects since his school band days. Since then, these musical tools have accompanied him in his own projects and in ensembles such as Peter Herbolzheimer’s Rhythm Combination & Brass, Bob Brookmeyer’s New Art Orchestra, Zabriskie Point, [re:jazz], Die Fantastischen Vier and Ralf Gum. Moreover, he’s a member of the hr-Bigband and has monthly residencies at Ono2 with “Der Temporäre Elektronische Salon” and “Tanztee”.

Excited to join my brother DANNY SON and PAPAYA today at Mousonturm to celebrate the release of Danny’s “We Speak Fluently EP” 🎶.

The event kicks off at 18:00 with a House Roots Jam, followed by the main party from 21:00 until 1:00 AM. While the jam is geared towards the house dance community, everyone is welcome. 🫶🏼 Free admission.

My relationship with Danny has many facets: he’s not only my former neighbor - he’s also become a close friend and the father of one of my daughter’s dearest friends. He’s a remarkable house dancer and was once my DJ student. From day one, I was impressed by his learning curve 📈– being incredibly passionate and talented, he absorbed insights from each DJ-session and progressed rapidly. I couldn’t be prouder and more thrilled about our inaugural gig together. Congratulations on your debut, Danny. Keep shining! 🤜🏽❤️🤛🏼

Ich freue mich euch heute Abend bei einem letzten Get-Together in diesem Jahr zu sehen und eine Selection ungewöhnlicher Christmas Songs zu spielen – von Aguinaldo und Parranda über Jazz zu Experimental, Funk, Reggae, Dancehall, Parang, Wave und weiteren Stilen. Die erste Tanztee-Saison auf der Mainod neigt sich dem Ende zu. Den letzten Tanztee 2023 feiern wir am ersten Advent. 🕯️ Nach einer kurzen Winterpause setzen wir unsere Reise am 3. März 2024 fort. Vor dem Break lassen wir am Sonntag noch einmal die so richtig Korken knallen und die Wellen der Nidda tanzen. Mit Special Guest DJ Sportwagen und den Residents Kosmik Kat und Oli Leicht an den Turntables und verschiedenen Blasinstrumenten verspricht es ein fulminanter Abschluss zu werden. 𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗢 𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗟𝗜 is a drummer and producer for musicians like Christian Prommer, Joy Denalane, Henrik Schwarz, Matias Aguayo & the Desdemonas, Peter Kruder and Stimming. The Stuttgart-based drum and studio wizard brings along a suitcase full of equipment and will process and embellish the DJ tracks live with his rhythms and sound effects.

𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗦 𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗪𝗜𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗡𝗜𝗚 has been a much sought-after bassist on the modern jazz scene for more than 20 years. He lived in New York for a long time and played with legends like Chick Corea, Billy Childs, Ray Barretto and Ravi Coltrane. He was involved in over 70 album recordings and has released three CDs with his own compositions. Tonight he returns to his roots on the electric bass and will provide wicked basslines and beautiful ornaments for the tracks.

Time to introduce our special guest on Saturday at SARAVÁ with Batukizer --> Carla from Batukizer / Brazilian Sounds. Before becoming a dj, Carla worked as a background singer and dancer for numerous Brazilian artists including Jorge Ben, Gilberto Gil, Lenine and Daúde. The Carioca native also recorded two solo albums under the name Carla Alexandar and was part of the Brazilian girl group Lilith. Nowadays, together with her project and life companion Rasmus, she travels the world as a different kind of music ambassador: a dj. She also teaches young women at the Future Female Sounds DJ Academy in Copenhagen. In their sets, Batukizer traverse Brazil's cultural and ethnic diversity from north to south and east to west, incorporating Afro-Brazilian styles, Tropicália, Samba, Bossa, MPB plus modern beats and basslines - a perfect fit for Saravá. The duo has released mixtapes through platforms like My Analog Journal, The Vinyl Factory and NTS Radio that have garnered much attention. It is our pleasure to introduce the second dj of Super Discoteca Tropical - Open Air am Mainkai on Friday, 28. JULY: Edna Martinez. Her sets tell of the musical journey between Africa, the Caribbean and the Levant, especially the sounds of the Cultura Picotera from the Colombian Caribbean, where she grew up. Musically, she represents the diversity of the Picó sound system universe: Soukous, Benga, Mbaqanga, Soca, Pachanga, Highlife, Zouk and more.

Edna has been living in Berlin for about 7 years. Since then she has enhanced the city’s music and cultural scene with her event series "Prende la Vela", "Latinarab" and "El Volcan". The latter is the only Picó Soundsystem party in Germany, which she puts on together with our dear friend DJ Nomad. She is a curator for music and sound practices at Haus der Kulturen der Welt and does radio shows on NTS, Radio Alhara and Worldwide FM. ¡bailemos y divirtámonos!

Time to introduce the djs of Super Discoteca Tropical - Open Air am Mainkaiisco this Friday: we're excited to bring "the hardest working man in Tropical music” to Frankfurt: ALEX FIGUEIRA.
Alex is a Venezuelan-Portuguese musician, producer, DJ and record collector who just relocated from Amsterdam to Brussels. He’s tirelessly pushing forward with his ambitious DIY-approach handling literally every part of the production process of his records: from music production to playing all instruments, mixing, mastering and artwork.

He’s the founder of critically acclaimed tropical psych punk outfit Fumaça Preta, afro-caribbean psychedelic sensation Conjunto Papa Upa, legendary record shop VintageVoudou Records, tropical experimental label Music With Soul Records and the Heat Too Hot studio. He just released two highly recommended LPs which emphasize his unique take on Tropical music: his solo-debut “Mentallogenic” and the no less inspiring “Pura Maldad” together with his band Lola’s Dice. Don’t miss his dj set at Super Discoteca Tropical next friday. He’s known as a full-blown collector and a top-notch selector who brings pure fiyah to the dance. 🔥🔥🔥

Ich freue mich auf den dritten Tanztee, besonders auf unseren Special Guest OLI LEICHT. Er war Mitglied renommierter Ensembles wie Peter Herbolzheimeŕs RC & B, Bob Brookmeyeŕs New Art Orchestra und [re:jazz], ist Teil der HR Big Band und Initiator des Elektronischen Salons - ein Angelpunkt der Frankfurter Jazzszene. Beim letzten Tanztee war er anwesend und improvisierte spontan zu meinem Set. Das kam beim Publikum und uns so gut an, dass wir ihn dieses Mal offiziell eingeladen haben. Kommt vorbei, am besten mit dem Rad oder den Öffis, Parkplätze sind knapp.

INFOS::
• Mit dem Format habe ich mir den langjährigen Wunsch erfüllt einen “Tanztee” zu veranstalten. Zum einen ist die Dämmerung mit ihrem Farbenspiel meine liebste Tageszeit. Zum anderen möchte ich all den Musikliebhabern und Tänzern eine Plattform bieten, die sich aus beruflichen oder familiären Gründen nicht die Nächte um die Ohren schlagen können oder möchten. Musikalisch wird es bunt und LAZY-esque: groovy sounds form the global underground. Bis Sonntag! 👋 ♡�

• Es geht ausdrücklich nicht um Gesellschaftstänze, jeder tanzt so, wie er oder sie möchte!

I am fulfilling a long-cherished wish with the relaunch of SUPER DISCOTECA TROPICAL with 2 open airs this summer. SAVE THE DATE for the first fiesta on Fr, 28. Happy birthday, Stevie Wonder! 🎈🎂Thank you for the music, for moving, inspiring and healing me on countless levels and occasions. 🧡🙏

From a singing child sensation who was signed at the tender age of 11 and had his first #1 hit with 13, to harmonica man, drumming sensation, composer and lyricist to fearless musical experimenter and multi-instrumentalist-studio-whizz-kid who would record many of his classic songs (almost) single-handedly during the greatest run in pop music history and become a Grammy-award-hog (25 and counting!) – Stevie’s genius seems infinite! Just as his impact on contemporary music and beyond as a one of the most distinguished singer-songwriters and performers of our time. One of the few who managed to dominate the sales charts, awards as well as year-end critics’ polls multiple times in the 1970s.

Fortunately his achievements are not limited to his creative output. Stevie was involved in politics long before artists would utilize political commitment and charitableness for the purpose of self-promotion. He has always used his music and position to improve the world around him. He lobbied against apartheid, for gun control, a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, made public service announcements for what he believed in and supported a number of charities & foundations.

What i love the most about Stevie though is his ability to melodize & lyricize a wide variety of human emotions and situations in life that are universally experienced by all of us irrespective of our cultures: joy and pain, love & hatred, sadness, birth and death, racial equality, spirituality … He always finds/found a way to put the topics and issues of our time into words and melodies.
