WE REVIEW THE NEW EP FROM CAGRI RAYDEMIR - BLACK OR WHITE The assiduous Cagri Raydemir never stops making music. Cagri Raydemir: Black or White (2023) - mini-review
Germany based artist Cagri Raydemir is out with the EP "Black or White", and progressive rock is possibly the best manner in which to define the music on this production. My main impression is that the material here comes from a singer/songwriter tradition at it's core level, with the foundation being an acoustic guitar and the lead vocals. The interesting bit is how this foundation has been expanded. For the opening and concluding songs it is by weaving in and out of rock music oriented bursts in a bit of an off kilter manner, and in between we get one song that plays around a bit with impulses from jazz and jazzrock and one song that also adds in folk music, world music and psychedelic elements. While a bit off kilter and on the unusual side of matters the landscapes explored are also compelling ones, with the moods and melodies both attractive and with the potential to gain a broad reach, hence this isn't an example of difficult music as such, but rather a case of music that si difficult to describe in an accurate manner. A production to seek out for those curious about what an art-oriented take on progressive rock from a singer/songwriter direction might sound like.
