Thank you ❤️
Annabelle definitely went through quite a few ups and downs and things did not go as well as expected. But
just like little Annabelle, some children just need time, and that is ok.
Annabelle is on the right track and I am sure that her parents will soon get all the sleep they deserve.
Thank you to Annabelle’s wonderful parents for putting their trust in me❤️

Thank you ❤️
These lovely parents‘ main goal was that their two boys sleep through the night, so that they can share a room. I am so glad, that little Wim and August sleep so well and can keep each other company at night now 🥰
Thank you to their parents for putting their trust in me 🙏🏻

Thank you to little Consti’s parents for their lovely review ❤️ I am so happy I could help !
The arrival of a tiny newborn is exciting, but can sometimes feel emotionally and physically overwhelming.
I want to support and help you "settle in" with your child and find a routine that not only feels right for you, but that will also encourage good sleep habits and later natural sleep consolidation for your baby. I cannot make your newborn baby sleep through the night, but I can help you set the right foundations for moving towards this goal.

What a wonderful note to end the weekend on! Thank you for these touching words ❤️
Little Hanna needed to be rocked to sleep sometimes for hours before we started, her parents were exhausted and had not gotten more than a couple of hours of sleep a night in months! I am so so happy, that things are going so well now, and that her parents are finally getting the sleep they too deserve!
Well done Hanna and thanks again to her lovely parents for putting their trust in me!

Here are 5 ways to prevent your little one from becoming overtired:
• Respect your little one’s need for sleep and wake times (according to age, weight, feeds needed, etc)
• Avoid consecutive late nights
• Try not to miss naps
• Trust your child’s body and its sleep cues
• Create space in the day for calm time

Cortisol is your body’s main stress hormone. It keeps you alert, and it helps you boost energy so you can handle stress.
Cortisol is made in the adrenal glands and it is also know as our „fight or flight“ hormone: it helps us respond to perceived threats.
What does this have to do with your child’s sleep?
Children release cortisol when they are overtired. In other words: although they are tired, their body sets their internal clock into “alert-mode”, making it a lot harder for them to fall asleep and stay asleep !
Stay tuned this week to find out :
• how to recognise overtiredness
and
• how to avoid it !

⚠️ Babies should always be placed on their backs to sleep - for naps and at night. According to the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) neither the side nor the stomach position are considered safe.
« Parents and caregivers should continue to place babies on their backs to sleep throughout the first year of life. Once babies are older than one year, the back sleep position is no longer necessary.
The first six months, when infants are forming their sleeping habits, are probably the most important in terms of the back sleep position and reducing SIDS risk. »

Fun Fact :
Did you know that only very few people sleep in different positions every night, and that accordingly, the position you sleep in may correlate with your personality?
Here’s what your sleep position may say about you:
Foetus 👶
People that sleep in a fetal position are said to be rough on the outside yet shy and sensitive on the inside.
Log 🪵
Those who sleep in the log position tend to be : sociable, extroverted, self-confident.
Yearner
People that sleep in a yearner position are often cynical and suspicious. They are very determined once they have taken a decision and like to be in control.
Soldier 💂♂️
People sleeping in the soldier position are rather reserved and have high standards.
Freefaller
„Freefallers“ are said to be bold, dominant and outspoken personalities.
Starfish ⭐️
If you sleep in a starfish position, you are most likely to be the peaceful, relaxed and free-thinking type.
Is this true for you? or for your kids? What position do you sleep in ?

Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate your sleep cycle. It is made by the pineal gland portion of your brain and it tells your body when it is time to go to sleep and to wake up.
Melatonin „can be thought of as one of the ‘oils’ that helps the gears of our internal body ‘clock’ run properly“ (Dr. Stephanie Jackson, pediatric Sleep Council).
Babies start producing melatonin at around 3 months by which time their circadian rhythm (body clock) will also start developing.

Bedtime routines are key.
A predictable routine will signal to your child, that it is time for bed and if used consistently, it will cause less protesting.
Make sure to involve your child in the process (let your little one chose pyjamas or pick one book out of two) and enjoy some calm quality time.
Also remember: Your routine should not last more than appr. 30 minutes.

My girls are nearly 3 years apart. They have been sharing a room since the younger one changed from a newborn cradle into a larger cot bed, and believe me, it works!
I am often asked when is the right time to have your children share a room, and how to make the transition work. Here’s a few tips:
• Make sure your younger child is ready. The WHO recommends babies stay in their parents' room until the age of 6 months. In general, I believe you can have siblings in one room as soon as the younger one sleeps through the night and has acquired good sleeping habits.
• Respect the rhythm of both children! Just because your children share the same room does not mean they should go to bed at the same time!
• Make sure your older child is ready and has also acquired good sleep skills. Take the time to explain to your older child what is happening, and what is expected of him/her (e.g. why s/he should go to bed quietly without waking his brother and sister, etc.). Let her/him know that when baby wakes up crying, you’ll be in shortly to take care of things. Start the bedtime routine outside of the room.
However, if you have an older child that is not adjusting well to a „new“ baby and already feels like they have to share everything, you may want to give it more time.
• Keep your children separated for naps.
• Stay “zen”. Try to tell yourself that if one sibling ever wakes the other up, s/he should fall back asleep easily if s/he has good sleeping skills.
• Give it some time. Children need a couple of days/weeks to accept change or a new environment. Trust your children.

Have you missed yesterday’s post?
Here is how I can help you with your tiny little one:
Newborns’ needs are very specific in the sense that they need to feel you close to them, they need to be comforted and nurtured as much as possible. I will and cannot teach your newborn to sleep through the night – this would not be natural. What I am able to help you with is finding the right rhythm, installing the correct sleep environment and laying the fundaments for balanced sleep. In addition, I can help you as a parent navigate the new challenges you might be facing.

Thank you so much for this lovely review ❤️
Little Loni was only 10 weeks old when we started working together. We therefore put together a newborn plan. Newborns’ needs are very specific in the sense that they need to feel you close to them, they need to be comforted and nurtured as much as possible. I will and cannot teach your newborn to sleep through the night – this would not be natural. What I am able to help you with is – as I did with Loni – finding the right rhythm, installing the correct sleep environment and laying the fundaments for balanced sleep. In addition, I can help you as a parent navigate the new challenges you might be facing.

☀️ Summer is here! ☀️
and it’s getting hot! 33°C in Hamburg tomorrow - what is it like in your city?
Here is a little guide on how to safely dress your baby for sleeping at different temperatures:
The TOG (thermal overall grade) indicates approximately how many blankets a sleeping bag is equivalent to. Bags with ratings of 0,5-2 or below are for spring/summer use. Bags with ratings of 2-2,5 are for autumn/winter.
26 degrees + : short-sleeved body & diaper or (for older babies) diaper only.
22-25 degrees : short-sleeved body and 0.5 tog sleeping bag.
18-24 degrees: short- or long-sleeved body and 1 tog sleeping bag.
17-20 degrees: short- or long-sleeved body, pyjamas and 2.5 tog sleeping bag.
⚠️ Please note:
• Reduce the risks of SIDS and never let your newborn or baby get too hot.
• Keep the room in which your baby sleeps at a comfortable temperature (around 18-20 degrees is perfect!)
• In general, dress your baby in no more than one extra layer than you would wear. Your baby may be too hot if she is sweating or if her chest feels hot.
• If you are worried that your baby is cold, use a wearable blanket, such as a sleeping bag or warm pyjama that is the right size for your baby.
• Avoid blankets and covering an infant’s head.
• If your baby feels hot to the touch (check by placing 2 fingers on your baby’s tummy, back or neck), take one layer off and check again after 10 minutes. Don’t check your baby’s feet or hands as these are often cooler than the rest of the body.
• Keep your baby’s room cool by closing blinds and curtains during the day and opening windows and doors to help air circulate.
