Empowering Schools through Theatre With Sarah

🗺 From the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award to geography field trips and class retreats, Ceri coordinates, designs and leads a range of outdoor education programmes in Germany and Austria. She also provides training for teachers who lead outdoor education activities in Germany.

🌱 Ceri discusses the benefits of these programmes, the challenges setting them up in an international setting and the sense of accomplishment that they bring.

Nora Suarez is Mexican American and moved from Seattle to Germany in 2020 with her partner. Nora is an Interdisciplinary Visual Artist currently focusing on how Colonialism influenced the loss of her mother tongue and how this impacts identity.

Nora began her career as an artist later in life, having previously worked in healthcare- managing critically-ill babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units for 20 years.

Nora discusses her appreciation of the richness and diversity of life and lifelong curiosity to learn and discover more. She shares how she discovered the key to happiness at a young age and her journey through balancing the demands of work in a highly intense and stressful environment with play. This self-awareness led her to eventually pursue a new real time adventure in fashion and art.

“We are all connected. This is globalisation. We need to have a more contextual approach. Even when we make a little play, we cannot talk about the individual topic without thinking about which kind of society this individual is living in.”

Bárbara Santos is a Brazilian director, author, performer, activist and the artistic director of KURINGA in Berlin, where she is currently based. For twenty years, Bárbara worked alongside Augusto Boal, who the creator of Theatre of the Oppressed.

Through adventuring in theatre and performance, Bárbara accompanies her participants on voyages that uncover the connection between personal experiences and societal structures in a globalised world. This process empowers people who are disadvantaged to find ways to act and improve their situations.

Today, we meet virtually with Bárbara in her home city, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. We hope that you enjoy this inspiring and fascinating conversation as much as we did.

And we're back... after our summer break we are diving back into our interview series. This month chatting with Alaskan-Californian John Garteiz.

John discovered his passion for travel and adventure after university. He shares how it brought him outside of his comfort zone- from cultural encounters that broadened his mindset to an appreciation of the world around us.

At times a lone adventurer, pursuing challenges out of the ordinary, John is also a real people person. He shares tales from his experiences of connection and communication adventures in diverse environments.

Now in his 70s, he also let’s us into how he maintains his fitness and positive life outlook.
