What did the Roman ships, or rather boats, that the Romans used to advance deep into the region along the Rhine and Danube and later used to patrol the river boundaries look like? How were they constructed, by whom and with what materials and methods?

Prof. Dr. Boris Dreyer, an expert in ancient history, has been exploring these questions in a very special way since 2016, when he began reconstructing and testing Roman river boats, taking them as far as the Black Sea. (Video in German)

Kann eine KI-Ampel den Verkehr besser machen? 🤖🚦

Die Stadt Hamm sagt: Ja! Sie seien mit ihrer ersten KI-gesteuerten Ampel sehr zufrieden. 👍

Für die Ampelanlage wird in Hamm Technik des Münchner Unternehmens Yunex eingesetzt. Es nutzt in seinem System "awareAI" Videokameras, deren Bilder von Algorithmen ausgewertet werden. An der Kreuzung in Hamm sind dafür sieben Kameras angebracht worden. Diese filmen diagonal über die Straßen hinweg, erfassen dabei auch Rad- und Fußwege. 📸

Die Technik kann erkennen, wie viele Verkehrsteilnehmer Bedarf für grünes Licht haben und diese entsprechend priorisieren. Dabei erkennt das System beispielsweise einen Radfahrer 70 Meter vor der Kreuzung und berücksichtigt ihn in seinen Berechnungen für die Dauer der Grünphasen.

Die KI kann auch erkennen, ob sich einzelne Fußgänger oder ganze Gruppen wie Schulklassen nähern. Dementsprechend wird die Grünphase verlängert, damit die komplette Gruppe die Straßen queren kann.

Die von der Kameras aufgenommenen Bilder werden aus Datenschutzgründen nur kurz gespeichert. ☝️
