A new treasure to my collection!

Found after a long search — an old-school analog multimeter from the Italian company ICE Milano. The model is called ICE Supertester 680G. What's unique about it? It's olivetti-branded ❤️ olivetti service technicians in the 70s/80s were equipped with these devices.

Just received this book from Italia today! 🇮🇹

Excited to dive into a fascinating book, written by Gianfranco Casaglia on computer science within Olivetti between 1970 and 1998. Sadly, it's only available in Italian, but with the help of translation software, I'm determined to unravel its secrets. 🌐💬 Though it makes the reading process a bit lengthy, from my first glance, it seems to be exactly what I've been searching for — a treasure trove of insights into the evolution of Olivetti's computer science during that era.

three boxes of 5.25" diskettes new/old stock and sealed, each containing 10 disks. Has anyone come across these formats before? Are they olivetti specific?

olivetti type labels

Hidden in a box for nearly 30 years, were presumed lost until this week when my exploration of old boxes in my family's house unveiled them. This discovery took me back to my childhood days spent at my father's company, where he served as an authorized Olivetti dealer and DATEV Systempartner.

Before reaching customers, the specific Olivetti computers underwent a transformation. The original type labels were replaced by distinctive green stickers, each bearing the OSM type.

The accompanying brochures vividly illustrated the diverse OSM system types:

Rumor has it that the Primavera 24 might have been crafted from leftover parts of the AT&T PC 6300 series, explaining its familiar brownish case color. The M24SP at the top , boasts a faster CPU and a sleek front bezel tweak.

Cleaning time! This time, it's the KEYBOARD3 of an Olivetti DVS (M24).

Remember my recent post about the DVS systems I received? Now, let's take a closer look at the keyboard while cleaning it and removing signs from the last 30+ years. Pictures of the full system are available at https://olivrea.de/olivetti-m24-datev-verbundsystem/

The KEYBOARD3 ANK 2465 was exclusively made for the German market, specifically for the use of DATEV Software, as explained in my other post. More pictures can be found at https://olivrea.de/olivetti-ank-2465-keyboard-3/

Unlike the standard M24 keyboards, this one has additional S function keys in the number block for smoother handling of the DATEV Software.

Revisiting the Golden Days of DOS Gaming!

This weekend, I'm diving back into the world of DOS gaming using my beloved
Olivetti M380-40 personal computer. It's powered by an Intel 386 DX running
at 33MHz, with 16MB RAM, 200MB hard disk and a Soundblaster Pro. This
machine holds a special place in my collection.

Why do I love it so much? Well, aside from the nice design and the
captivating logo color on the front panel, the CPU was a champion for
playing DOS games back in the early '90s.

I'm gearing up to install some classics and have an epic retro gaming
session. What are your top suggestions for DOS games that I shouldn't miss?
Share your favorites with me and let's make this weekend a blast from the
past!

A Sentimental Journey Back to the Beginning

This photo takes me back to the early days, around 2015-2016, when I first started collecting. In the top left corner, you'll spot an Olivetti M20, a true gem that was almost 500 kilometers (one-way!!) away from my home. What did I do? I picked it up in just one day! Looking back, it seems a bit crazy!

The Olivetti M20 below was purchased from a seller in Hamburg, and I was worried about it getting damaged during shipping, but thankfully, it arrived safe and sound.

And then there are the three M24s, one of them traveled all the way from the Netherlands to join my collection, while the other two were fantastic eBay finds.

Now, 7-8 years later, with many more additions to my collection, I can't help but reflect on the time and money I've invested in this hobby. It might seem a little mad and crazy, but it's all worth it. It's not just about the machines; it's about the memories and the love that keeps the Olivetti spirit alive.

This Week's Collection Finds!

Unearthing treasures! This week, I had the extraordinary chance to connect with a former Olivetti technician who had a hidden stash of machines tucked away in his cellar. His eagerness to share these vintage gems was a delightful surprise. Now, I'm thrilled to showcase some of the standout finds from this week's haul.

Two Olivetti DVS (DATEV VerbundSystem), also recognized as Olivetti M24, have made their way into my collection. These machines were specially tailored for tax advisors who partnered with DATEV, a software service provider specializing in tax consultancy and financial accounting. Olivetti itself had collaborated with DATEV since the 1970s, providing several certified hardware solutions.

Under the hood, the internals mirrored the standard M24, with one difference — the keyboard. Known as the Keyboard 3, it featured additional function keys designed to streamline the handling of DATEV software. Another difference from the standard M24 is the presence of a customized extension card and an external box housing a modem. This setup allowed the machines to connect to DATEV data centers for further data processing.

While these two machines have the cards, they lack the external box. Additionally, their front color is grey instead of black.

For a closer look at another version, you can visit

Delving into the past: A journey through olivetti´s personal computer history

I've been on a fascinating journey lately, scanning and preserving hundreds of Olivetti brochures and prospectuses. These treasures were primarily collected during my childhood and supplemented by purchases from worldwide online auctions over the past couple of years.

These vintage pieces are more than just paper; they're a testament to the innovation and craftsmanship of a bygone era. Each brochure tells a story. It's like stepping into a time machine to explore the world of office technology in the 1980/90´s

But it's not all smooth sailing! I was facing some unique challenges with my automatic document scanner. Some of these brochures have multiple pages, weird formats, are stapled and even hard covers. Each one is a puzzle to be solved, and it's been quite the adventure figuring out how to preserve them in digital form without damaging or even destroying these precious relics of history.

The good news is that I've recently acquired a new Shine Ultra 1300 Scanner, which has been a real game-changer in handling these diverse formats. Thanks to its versatility, I can now tackle those hard covers, stapled materials, and multi-page brochures with ease. What's more, it can even scan documents up to A3 format, and with the added convenience of a foot pedal, scanning has become quicker than ever. However, it's important to note that one minor drawback I've encountered is the integrated lighting, which can sometimes cause reflections, especially on glossy brochures. While some of the more expensive CZUR scanners might have offered better lighting handling, this one fits my budget. It's still a valuable addition to my scanning arsenal.

Stay tuned as I share some of the most intriguing finds from this collection, thanks to this new addition to my scanning toolkit. Let's celebrate the history of and the enduring legacy of their innovations, even if it means a few extra pages to scan! Visit my website at https://olivrea.de to explore more.
