NazarΓ© Tow Surfing Challenge Explained 11/02/2020

WOHHHH, its a green light for the first Nazare Tow Surfing Challenge.

Are you a fan of Big Wave surfing....?

Love watching the epic drops and insane wipe outs?

We will be glued to our laptops in about 5 hours time when the event kicks off live in just over 5 hours.

The reason this event is soooo exciting is that its a new format for WSL Big Wave competitions.
This is the first, team-oriented big wave tow-in event in the league's history.

Here's how it works:

- 19 big wave surfers from around the globe - 17 men and 2 WOMEN (I bolded this as its awesome) - will be paired up in tow teams.

- They will compete in a four-hour expression session with no elimination, and an option to run longer if conditions are right.

- The session will feature a rotating heat format and priority system that keeps five teams in the water at all times.

- Each tow team will get two, one-hour heats to whip each other into waves of mind-boggling heights.

Check out the teams here and hit this link to head to WSL for more info and to watch the livestream.

How is your pop up?
Do you struggle with being able to lift your body weight or are you able to pop up with ease?

For most beginners mastering the pop up is one of those challenging and sometime frustrating elements of surfing.
To start with you have to have the strength to push your body up off the board, that means arms, back and core strength. Then you need to do it quickly, which means you need the flexibility to move fast and to get your knees and feet up and into position. And finally, you need your core turned on so once you are up to have the strength and balance to glide onto the wave, without taking a dive.

It’s so much to think about and the kicker is you need to do this all on instinct.

So here are Big Blue Surf School, we teach you from scratch.
We spend time with you on the beach before each session warming up our muscles and increasing flexibility, then we hit the sand for pop up practice, taking you through the technique in slow motion so you can master each element. Once you are feeling the pop up, we hit the water and we practice, again and again and again. We give you feedback there and then so you can hone your technique as well as catching some nice waves along the way.

And our teaching doesn’t stop when you finish you session with us, oh no. We have the perfect blend of exercises and flexibility techniques that we encourage you to practice either on or off the beach that will help you build that blend of strength and flexibility for your next session and make your pop up feel ..EASY AS.
Yoga is also the perfect strength and flexibility partner to surfing which is why we love to combine our surf adventures with daily yoga.

Come and join us for your next surf and yoga adventure. We are offering 10% discount on all booking made in February, so there is even more reason to book with us.

Well, it may be February but the sun has sure got some heat in it already.
We spend a LOT of time in the water and are always looking for great sunscreen and zinc to keep our bodies from getting sun damaged.
We get asked a lot about the best products to use and what we wear to keep us protected.
For us it comes down to SPF vs. Zinc.

Here is a quick bit of science or rather chemistry for you

SFP sunscreen, they are absorbed into our skin and absorb UV radiation and stop them from penetrating to deep into skin. SPF work well for cooler, less sunny days but they need to be reapplied frequently if you are in the water to offer the high sun protection you need. LIKE EVERY 20mins.
Also beware of products that have oxybenzone in them as this is a reef killer.

Zinc physically blocks, scatters and reflects the UV radiation and forms a physical layer on the skin which is what stops the sun going through. So the UV rays are literally bouncing off you skin.

So even on the super hot days Zinc will keep you from burning and stay put in the water.

So lather up even on grey days when the UVA and UVB can be just as intense.

If you need some zinc inspiration - here are the products you can find in our surf bags.

Happy hunting!

Ok, we all know the feeling, you are pumped and ready to hit the water but the surf gods and goddesses have got other ideas. Grrrr
It's flat as a pancake or just a windy mess and no amount of paddling and determination is going to get you any waves.

It can be a total mood killer not to mention being seriously frustrating when there are no waves and all you want to do is surf, but its just oceans way of giving us a little break to recharge, review and get rested for the next big session.
And when those days hit the BigBlue crew have the perfect spot to head to...Paradise Valley.
Up in the mountains behind Taghazout, with cool air and even cooler fresh water streams, we head to with our guests to relax, picnic, swim and get our feet gently nibbled (in a nice way) by little fish.
It's the perfect way to spend a lazy day and just because we aren't surfing, doesn't mean we aren't talking waves, technique, coaching tips and plans for the next session.

So why not come and join us in February for a Surf Holiday and let us show you all the secret spots.

Massive frothy CONGRATS to Wiggolly Dantas who scored victory at the 2020 Volcom Pipe Pro amid wonky, windy beachbreak-esque 4-foot Pipe conditions in the final.

Wiggolly, who wasnt the commentators pick to win (opps), packed in some jaw dropping moments highlighted by hammering Backdoor with turns in the final, was the fully deserving victor.

Wiggolly....we salute you!! πŸ€™

Day 3 The 11th edition of the event returns to the legendary Hawaiian surf break known as the Banzai Pipeline.

31/01/2020

WOW....what a week at the FIRST WSL Pro Taghazout Bay.
Anchor Point served up the good again for the final day of compeition with pristine conditions.

Nat Young absolutely dominated finals day making the most of the clean waves and firing up the crowd on the beach and at the point.

The native Californian had this to say about our beloved Anchor Point to WSL...

"I'm super happy to start the year like that," he said. "Honestly just being here in Morocco for the first time and getting to surf waves like that for a contest is all you can ask for. I think in the quarters it was just us two goofy foots and all regulars. I think that wave really suits us on our backhand, and we also both probably surf waves similar to this a lot."

What a nice guy....and we couldnt agree more that the breaks here in Taghazout are truely awesome for regulars and goofys alike.

Why not come and join us for your next surf trip. We will get to you the best waves, best spots and make sure you have best time in the water.

This last week has seen the Pro Taghazout Bay competition hit the surf breaks around Taghazout and its been an epic first 4 days.

Its been absolutely firing with Anza serving up perfect swell for the first 4 days of the comp and providing some near perfect conditions.
But that going to be nothing compared to the AWESOME Anchor Point where the comp moves to today.

Obviously we have been on the beach to check out the surfing and watch the waves (in between lessons) and so far Pro Taghazout Bay has not disappointed.

Cant stop thinking about your next surf trip...we know the feeling!

With February fast approaching there is NO better time to come and join us at Big Blue Morocco....in fact there are 4 massive reasons why its the perfect time to book a trip with us.

1. Most spots in February are at their quietest so this is great news for all surf levels, beginners will be owning the waves at spots that are normally busier.

2. Its the best time for you if you are intermediate & if you want to surf secret spots like the slab, donkeys and as well savage spots like desert point, boilers and killers, as this is the time when those surf spots are really pumping.

3. The temperature of water starts to warm up in February so no need for 4/3 (unless you like a thicker suit) and you can leave those hoods and booties in your suitcase.

4. And finally...flights (and travel deals ) are still very reasonable (cheap) from Europe and even further afield, so grab those flight deals while the price is low..
