The idea that gave birth to the klub der 40 e.V. The klub der 40 e.V.
(“The club of 40”) was to produce a concert with legendary Roky Erickson in Germany once more. The club’s members - at the time 40 - where prepared to bear the initial costs for such an endeavour and agreed to donate a monthly fee to the club. This was back in the late 80s. has meanwhile become a registered non-profit association (since 1997) organising concerts and other cultural events. One of t

In Zeiten von Spotify, Streaming, digitalen Downloads, TikTok und Instagram haben es schrullige Liedermacher wie Jim White - die schon alleine musikalisch zwischen allen möglichen Stühlen sitzen und sowieso eher auf langlebige, konventionelle Handwerkskunst als den eingefangenen musikalischen Moment setzen - natürlich noch schwerer, mit ihrer Kunst an die Öffentlichkeiten zu gelangen, als in Zeiten, in denen die großen Plattenfirmen noch Geld hatten, ihre Künstler durch die Gegend zu schicken. Insofern kann es der Privatinitiative des rührigen Kölner Klub der 40 gar nicht hoch genug angerechnet werden, dass die kulturfördernden Vereinsfreunde alles daran gesetzt hatten, den enigmatischen Songwriter, Troubadour, Produzent und seit einiger Zeit auch Podcaster und Schriftsteller aus Georgia in eigener Sache für ein einzelnes Konzert nach Köln zu locken.

Here we go with an interview and music from singer/songwriter Jim White, who discovered the „wrong-eyed jesus“ and a crazy dark tone in his music. Did you know: He spent some time as a fashion model in Cologne, before he began to step into the vast landscape of American dreams and nightmares on his records? He is talking as well about depression and the luck of being a father to children in the interview.
White is headlining the may edition of my „Broadcast“ show, followed by the likes of Calexico, Kevin Farge and Jake Xerxes Fussell.
