A bit of history on Rosslyn Chapel
Scottish Freemasonry
Rosslyn Chapel was begun in 1440. In 1483 the burgh of Aberdeen is recorded as having been involved in the resolution of a dispute between six βmasons of the lodge,β not βstonemasons,β not βcraftsmen,β but βmasons of the lodge.β As Freemasonry began to spread, new lodges were established throughout Scotland, candidates were initiated, and given βThe Mason Word.β The earliest surviving Lodge Minutes from Edinburgh date from 1599.
James the VI (1566-1625) of Scotland was made a Mason at the Lodge of Scoon and Perth in 1601. In 1602 the Lodges of Scotland affirmed William St. Clair of Rosslyn as the Hereditary Grand Master Mason of Scotland from Time Immemorial. It was not until 1603, when James VI of Scotland, became James I of Great Britain, that he took Freemasonry to England. In 1641, nearly forty years later, Sir Robert Moray (1608-1673) is recorded to have been the first man to have been made a Mason on English soil.

A pleasure to be part of the Doors Open Day
Grand Lodge held its Doors Open event on Sunday, 24th September 2023 and were very pleased to welcome over 800 people through the doors.
A team of Stewards, Tour Guides and Staff were joined by members of the Glasgow Young Masons and Young Lothian Masons. The βhome teamβ were kept busy showing folks around Freemasonsβ Hall and answering many, many questions about freemasonry β we were joined by Prostate Scotland and even had the organ playing.
The team felt the event was a great success and a significant step towards dispelling the myths about the closed doors of Grand Lodge, and what goes on behind them!
Great work from our neighbouring Brethren Edinburgh Ashlars ππ»ππ»
