Places of worship make a meaningful mark on our architectural landscape. Often historic and deliberately welcoming, they incorporate materials and symbolism that speak of place and purpose.

Lighting plays an important role in the expression of contemplative architecture, and ERCO was thrilled to learn recently that Gillard Group had received further international recognition for their work in relighting the magnificent St. Mary’s Church in Warwick, Queensland. The 1926 church, built in local sandstone, held minimal lighting and electrical infrastructure, and in completing the new design, Gillard complied with strict installation guidelines and heritage constraints to retain character and integrity.

Backlighting of the bell tower windows and spire, in-ground grazing of the sandstone, and thoughtful luminaire placement within the nave, cohesively bring the church to life, welcoming parishioners and visitors, and respectfully highlighting the important icons and events the congregation holds dear.

With all the hours spent on perfecting the lighting in a gallery, it’s important to keep sight of the main goal: how will the audience interact with the exhibition?

👨‍👩‍👦 Seeing an audience engaged, intrigued, inspired is surely the most satisfying outcome for the lighting team at Geelong Gallery. With base ERCO track installed throughout the spaces, and a stock of ERCO Eclipse luminaires with interchangeable lenses, every new installation can be presented to perfection.

Photographer Andrew Curtis caught some heart-warming moments of human interaction at the Cressida Campbell exhibition Cutting Through Time recently.

As tough as they come 💪 Our outdoor luminaires give the cold shoulder to external influences of a mechanical nature. Robust ground-recessed luminaires remain intact even with daily bouts of heavy walkover traffic. For you this means less repair costs and downtime in daily operation. https://bit.ly/3MGAIVm

This forest of lifters is an excellent reminder of the merits of choosing high quality luminaires.

The lobby of 259 George Street in Sydney suffered an unfortunate flood recently, necessitating major refurbishment. It’s now returned to its former glory (see the current images) and thank goodness ERCO luminaires can be relied upon in a lobby with 6-metre ceilings! ERCO Iku wallwashers and Quinta directionals for accenting mean the lifters can be kept for emergencies only.

✨ More darkness for the night 🌑
ERCO goes one step further to prevent light pollution. Our Castor bollard luminaires with Dark Sky technology and precise lens technology direct the light specifically onto the ground and ensure that it is not emitted above the horizontal line. This innovative optic ensures that the light reaches exactly where it is needed.

The result? ✅ No glare for passers-by and drivers, 🌌 preserved darkness of the surroundings and a clear starry sky. In this way, we combine the preservation of the nocturnal ecosystem with the 🌇 representative enhancement of the urban space. https://bit.ly/3MLqKCp

Modern lighting for a monumental work of art at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris 💡🎨The museum houses an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art, including the monumental painting "La Fée Électricité" by Raoul Dufy. This 600 m² masterpiece, composed of 250 panels, tells the fascinating story of electricity from ancient times to modern achievements, watched over by the Olympic gods. ⚡🎨

Can cars be art? 🚗✨ At the Grand Basel, this question is answered with a resounding yes! The opening exhibition of the fair presents exclusive classic cars in a unique gallery environment. High-quality automobiles such as the 1958 Citroen DS "Le Croisette" are showcased, reflecting both the history of technology and the aesthetics of past eras.

🎨 The fair stages the vehicles as if in an art gallery. The cars are presented on frame-like platforms covered with opaque tensioned film to draw attention to the exhibits. This construction provides an ideal basis for an impressive lighting display: https://bit.ly/3Axs88w

🔧 One particular challenge was to design the entire exhibition architecture to be portable so it could travel easily. The constructions must be reliably assembled and disassembled and comply with the host countries' various electrical systems and safety regulations.

💡 The solution: Custom-made Parscan spotlights from ERCO, which impress with excellent color rendering and flexibility. To avoid mixed light situations in naturally lit exhibition halls, daylight-like light with outstanding color rendering was defined. Additionally, they offer dimming control on the housing and flexibility with regard to the beam angel to provide the best lighting for any exhibition.

A portrait artist of the calibre of Ralph Heimans is, quite rightly, particular about the way his works are presented. The latest in his resume of high-profile subjects – joining a stable of ‘royalty and cultural icons’ – are Anthony Pratt and his late father Richard.

Entitled The Chairmen, his glorious portrait was recently unveiled in the Southbank (Melbourne) Headquarters of the Pratt family’s packaging, recycling and logistics company, Visy. Familiar with ERCO from his time in London, Heimans specified ERCO Parscan spotlights (three units in 4000K CRI92) to deliver his desired result. As this moment shows, Mr Pratt is justifiably pleased with his big reveal.

Take a look at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki! ✨
https://bit.ly/4flMeCM

In the mid-1990s, ERCO equipped the Kiasma Museum in Helsinki with halogen lighting, which was cutting-edge at the time. Now, following a major renovation, the museum's galleries and exhibition spaces have been updated with energy-efficient LED technology.

The new fixtures, including Eclipse, Pollux, and Parscan spotlights, deliver excellent light quality and high visual comfort. The original lighting concept by architect Steven Holl, which considered the extreme lighting conditions in Nordic latitudes, has been preserved. Modern LED spotlights continue to provide flexible and directional lighting for temporary exhibitions and sculptural pieces, meeting the initial design expectations.
The magic of light continues! 💡

Balmy Cairns in Far North Queensland is famous for many things: the Great Barrier Reef, Daintree Rainforest, tourism, crocodiles, and torrential downpours. Newly expanded, the Cairns Convention Centre hosts major events for locals and visitors, and part of its overhaul is a superbly sensible porte cochere designed to protect arrivals from the elements.

Consultants Sequal specified ERCO fittings to fill the undercroft with welcome: glare-free IP65 Kona luminaires mounted on the verticals, size large downlighting the roadway from up high, and size small half way up illuminating the ceiling. Additional Konas concealed in the lush tropical plantings light parts of the colourful and environmentally-friendly façade to keep the Centre prominent on the city-scape 24 hours a day.
