THE UNIVERSITY OF BHĀGAVATA CULTURE: FREE TRUTH

Salute spirituale in primis significa “ONORARE IL VERO”. “ONORARE IL VERO” significa "RIMANERE IN SALUTE SPIRITUALE" e, “DIRE SEMPRE LA VERITA’”.

THE UNIVERSITY OF BHĀGAVATA CULTURE: FREE TRUTH
Rupa Vilasa Dasa

Bhagavata knowledge must always be given freely and truthfully, without interests or compromises of any kind, since being "Word of God and not dissimilar to Himself", eternally confirms the Ultimate Spiritual Reality contained in the Absolute Truth.
Therefore the BHAGAVATA UNIVERSITY OF CULTURE being the direct creation of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, and the direct shaping of Dr. Thoudam Damodara Singh Ph.D,. Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami, Sripada Maharaja, on the basis of His ontological status is always required to tell the Truth (albeit uncomfortable) contained in Vedanta and, consciously and lovingly conveyed, before Them, by the succession of authentic spiritual Masters.
THE UNIVERSITY OF BHAGAVATA CULTURE spreads the Knowledge of the Vedas and the Bhagavata Culture for FREE as A.C. Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada Swami has always given such knowledge FREE OF CHARGE AND WITHOUT INTEREST OF ANY KIND, ON THE EXAMPLE OF HIS SPIRITUAL MASTER AND ALL THE ACARYAS that preceded him for the benefit of all human sentient entities on the planet. The devotional knowledge contained in Vedanta (Bhagavata Culture) cannot be subjected to the demand for money or other shady economic interests. It must be able to express itself without the ballast of economic interest, since being the Vedas "person" and "perfect", since they are not different from God, have the task of connecting all men to the Absolute Truth or to the Supreme Person Sri Krishna Bhagavan and to give birth to Love in the Your comparisons. The unclear intrusion of money leads to cheap activities, situations that should have as their only common denominator only the purity of intent and lack of personal interests, both of those who donate and those who receive. The power of the devotional message lies precisely in the purity and loving attitude of both. THE UNIVERSITY OF BHAGAVATA CULTURE "CONDEMNS" therefore openly those who use this knowledge in a bad way, since to be conscious servants of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada means to be free from compromising situations and deviating the perfect and eternal message of the Vedas.
THE UNIVERSITY OF BHAGAVATA CULTURE was born with the intention of spreading the knowledge of God through the Sacred texts of the Vedas. The primary characteristic that distinguishes her is to always transmit the truth whatever it is and of any topic she intends to discuss. Spiritual health in the first place means "HONOR THE TRUE". “HONORING THE TRUE” means "STAYING IN SPIRITUAL HEALTH" and, “ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH.”. THE UNIVERSITY OF BHAGAVATA CULTURE is only required to divulge what the SADHUS of the past and current ones have transmitted and transmit with so much love to all living entities.
If a few people display the arguments that the UNIVERSITY OF BHAGAVATA CULTURE placed on Facebook can remain upset, offended and more, given that it is always bound to say and confirm the Truth contained in the Holy Scriptures, since now in the role of its rector, hands tributes to the lotus feet of all the Vaishnavas and all their Spiritual Masters and also of all believers and non-believers. I humbly ask for the blessing of all the Vaishnavas so that the UNIVERSITY OF BHAGAVATA CULTURE can always best perform the wonderful spiritual service entrusted to it: to make known the Supreme Person and Personality of God SRI KRISHNA BHAGAVAN and, to give birth to love for Him.

Biographical Information of His Holiness Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja (Dr. Thoudam Damodara Singh Ph.D.) – (1937-2006): Scientist, Educationalist, Writer, Philosopher, Theologian and Spiritualist on the day commemorating His appearance on this planet. 09/12/2023
Rupa Vilasa Dasa

I offer my respectful obeisances to Dr Thoudam Dāmodara Singh, Ph.D - His Holiness, His Divine Grace, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja International Honorary President of the Bhaktivedanta Institute and the University of Culture Bhāgavata who dedicated his life and served tirelessly his spiritual master Śrīla Prabhupāda Swami. The goal of this article is therefore to pay homage to a pure devotee of Śrī-Kṛṣṇa-Bhagavān. All those who wish to honor His memory, the memory of His beloved Spiritual Master Śrīla Prabhupāda Swami and the Vaiṣṇavas, they will know how to benefit from this writing.

Brief profile of the life of His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja (Dr. Thoudam Damodara Singh Ph.D.)

His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja, was born on an early Thursday morning on the sixth day of Sukla Paksha of Poinu (which corresponds to 9 December 1937 according to the Gregorian calendar) in the Toubul village in the Viṣṇupur district, about 28 kilometers in the Southeast of Imphal, the capital of Manipur. Before His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja accepted the initiation from Śrīla A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, was called "Thoudam Dāmodara Sing", or simply "Dāmodara". Dāmodara had the good fortune of taking birth in a humble Vaiṣṇava family. His father, Thoudam Yogendra Sing, was a bhakta, a devotee of Kṛṣṇa, and by profession he was a Nata Saṅkīrtana singer. Her mother, Thoudam Ongbi Keinahanbi Devi, was a housewife, also devoted to Kṛṣṇa and part of the Gaudiya Vaiṣṇava family. From childhood, Dāmodara, the only male child, with two sisters, had the opportunity to be educated in traditional Vaiṣṇava culture and for this he was very attracted to listening to the pastimes of Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. He used to regularly participate in the worship of deities, Śrī-Śrī Radha Kṛṣṇa, Śrī-Śrī Gaura-Nitai and Śrī-Śrī Jagannātha Baladeva and Subhadrā, who were installed in the local temple. As a child he enjoyed much joy in singing the Dasha Avatāra Stotra of the famous poet Vaiṣṇava Śrī Jayadeva (Jayadev Chongba).
Every evening in the temple, during the nine days of the Ratha-yātrā festival of Jrī Jagannātha, he loved the "khechuri and mangalutti" (preparation of prasādam made of whole peas and fresh bamboo shoots) of Lord Jagannātha, served on a fresh lotus leaf. Annual holidays, such as Janmāṣṭamī and Gaura-purnima, celebrated in the complex of Palazzorī Govindaji Palace, were a source of constant happiness for him. Because of his intense desire to attend the theatrical demonstrations that staged the pastimes of Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, he sometimes neglected his studies and absent himself from exams. On one occasion he spent the whole night watching the Divine Dance Rāsa-līlā and failed the final written exam in Mathematics, when he attended high school in Viṣṇupur. At the age of five, Dāmodara witnessed the advance of the Japanese Army and with the support of the INA (Indian National Army), they bombed the city of Imphal on May 10, 1942. During that period, the father, who had fallen ill with cheering, died. He was only seven years old then. In 1945 the war ended. After the father disappeared, the burden of keeping Dāmodara and sending him to school fell on the shoulders of his older sister, Ahanbi Devi. When Ahanbi reached the age of marriage, he married and left the house. Dāmodara began to live alone at the age of eleven depending on the profits from the production obtained from less than two acres of land, which his father had left him. In the same year he became seriously ill with typhus. Many of his companions died in the epidemic, while he was saved thanks to his uncle Sri Thoudam Kerani Sing and Dr. Yogendra Sing, an Imphal naturopath. Under his care Dāmodara fasted for forty days and drank only serum. Miraculously he recovered completely and remained in the home of Kerani, who became his only guardian. Kerani Sing was attentive to every need of Dāmodara, including schooling, until the moment when his nephew left for the U.S.A. for university studies.
When we refer to the difficulties encountered by His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja (Dāmodara) during childhood, we are reminded of the important admonition of His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī when asked the important question about the birth of a devotee in a very poor and miserable family. Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākurā Gosvāmī replied: “Devotees are never subject to the consequences of karma. It is by the desire of the Lord that other pastimes are born and perform. But when we see that they are born in low-class families, who are illiterate or oppressed by disease, we should know that there is a great and noble purpose behind all this. If people saw that devotees are always born in high-class families, or that they are always strong and educated, then they would be discouraged. So the merciful Lord, to benefit men of all classes, sends His devotees from different classes of society to bestow His mercy on other living entities. " Śrīla Vṛndāvana Dāsa Ṭhākurā Gosvāmī said in Caitanya Bhāgavata that: “A Vaiṣṇava frees anyone only by being born. In a land and family where a Vaiṣṇava descends, many hundreds of miles around that place are purified thanks to its influence. Even if some external misery is glimpsed in the life of a Vaiṣṇava, it should be known that in reality he is experiencing great ecstasy. Those who are blinded by the pride of their material possessions do not know these things. Drunk with pride in his education, his money and his family, he does not recognize a Vaiṣṇava. If a devotee appears in a lower class, we should not see this as a consequence of his sins, or believe that he is subject to the result of his actions. For this reason it is to be considered a "great soul".
Thanks to his academic achievements, Dāmodara won many scholarships, without which he could not have continued his studies. At about eight o'clock in the evening, after finishing a frugal evening dinner, he reviewed the lessons of the school. He loved math and English literature very much. He had no table, chair, or electricity, so he used a Kerosene lamp to read. He went to sleep at 9.30 in the evening and woke up at 4 in the morning. Then, in the light of a lamp, he sat on a mat, not disturbed by anyone, and absorbed himself in reading his subjects for the next two hours. At 6 he cleaned the cowshed, removed the dung and took the cows out to pasture. On his return from school at 4.30 pm, he went back to the fields to take the cows back. During the rainy season (the cultivation period), Dāmodara cultivated the land with the help of oxen and planted rice. Although the work was exhausting, he didn't bother with the effort. In 1957 Dāmodara passed the matriculation exam at the University of Gauhati in Assam. After that he attended the most prestigious college in Manipur, where he took his specialization in Science. In this institution Dāmodara became one of the favorite students of Prof. Dhirendralal Mukherjee, head of the Department of Chemistry. Dāmodara passed the Intermediate Science Exam in 1959 with distinction and subsequently graduated with honors in Chemistry in 1961. As a candidate proposed by the Indian government, he entered the Department of Applied Chemistry, at the College of Science of the University of Calcutta , and in 1964 he obtained the Master in Chemical Engineering and Chemical Technology, with full marks. From 1964 to 1966 he obtained the post-graduate research scholarship of the University Grant Commission. Subsequently, thanks to an offer by the Indian government minister of education for an overseas scholarship (U.S.A.), Dāmodara was chosen from more than 400 candidates for only three places. Said scholarship, it proved to be a fundamental ingredient in the life of Dāmodara.
In the early 1970s, in the U.S. Dāmodara, received, at the University of California, Irvine, while working in Ph.D. research in Organic Physical Chemistry, a telegram from India announcing the death of his mother. It was during this critical period in Dāmodara's life that Dr. Rao, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Medical Research Institute near the Irvine campus, introduced him to his eternal guide and his savior, Jagad Guru Śrīla A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda. Śrīla Prabhupāda was in New Dvārakā at that time. In the first crucial meeting, Dāmodara had the opportunity to speak with him in his apartment on the second floor of the temple on Watseka Avenue. They talked intimately and seriously, as if they had known each other for many, many years, and Śrīla Prabhupāda seemed to Dāmodara an affectionate and caring father, who taught a beloved son. Very impressed by Śrīla Prabhupāda's intimate and personal relationships and his natural concern for the good of one and all, Dāmodara was deeply impressed by His Divine Grace. Extremely grateful and repeatedly thanking Dr. Rao for introducing him to such a great personality, he confessed that he regretted not having succumbed earlier to his friend's repeated requests to meet Śrīla Prabhupāda. In fact, Dāmodara had to admit that the most noble gift among friends, especially at the moment of the loss of a parent, was the inspiration that could be drawn from a person realized in himself. Comforted by psychological suffering, Dāmodara in 1970 obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Physical Chemistry, under the guidance of Prof. Robert W. Taft at the University of California. The following year, June 30, 1971, in the ISKCON New Dwaraka temple in Los Angeles, Dāmodara received formal initiation from Śrīla Prabhupāda. Śrīla Prabhupāda gave it the spiritual name of "Svarūpa Dāmodara Dāsa", which means, as Śrīla Prabhupāda briefly explained: "Svarūpa Dāmodara was the secretary of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. You are the servant of Svarūpa Dāmodara ".
From 1970 to 1977 Śrīla Prabhupāda educated Svarūpa Dāmodara in the science and philosophy of Kṛṣṇa consciousness with the utmost care and attention. He instructed his disciple in every way he could to present the Kṛṣṇa consciousness among scientists and philosophers around the world. The dialogues in the morning walks between Śrīla Prabhupāda and Svarūpa Dāmodara Dāsa in the years 1972-1973 in Venice Beach in California, have become a classic. The discussion focused on grandirīla Prabhupāda's great insights into critical analysis of Darwin's evolutionary theory. Now they have been published by BBT in a book entitled "Life comes from life". In 1974, Srīla Prabhupāda made him Director of the Bhaktivedanta Institute, the scientific and academic section of ISKCON. Śrīla Prabhupāda also named Svarūpa Dāmodara Dāsa as ISKCON Minister of Education in 1976. In 1977, Śrīla Prabhupāda made him a member of the Commission of the Government Corps (GBC), which directs ISKCON activities worldwide. Svarūpa Dāmodara Dāsa entered Sannyāsa's Āsrama in 1979 under the name of His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja, after being a Naiṣṭhika-brahmacārī, and in 1982 the GBC had become the master.

Dr. Thoudam Dāmodara Singh, Ph.D - His Holiness, His Divine Grace, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja was born in Manipura (literally "Land of jewels") in the family and Vaiṣṇava land. Naiṣṭhika-brahmacārī, Sannyāsī, Brāhmaṇa and qualified initiator Guru, he descended like all the inhabitants of Manipura from Satī (Pārvatī) daughter of the king of this wonderful land and from Arjuna. Arjuna conceived Babhruvahana joining in marriage to Citrāṅgada, daughter of the King of Manipura.
Scientist and very close disciple of Śrīla Prabhupāda Gosvāmī, Śrīpada Mahārāja was engaged in an infinite number of services that his tutor and teacher had entrusted to him in life. To list his countless institutional, academic, religious and spiritual offices within ISKCON and beyond, is to list the qualities of a pure devotee. In his long career as ISKCON Spiritual Master, he has traveled around the world several times, organizing conferences, making contact with the world's leading academics, nobel prizes, with the religious leaders of the major religions (Dalai Lama, Giovanni Paul II, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Rabbis and Imam); he taught and blessed with his presence many disciples on the planet; committed himself to universal peace by contacting the major heads of state (presidents and ministers) and discussing this issue with them; has restored and built hospitals, schools, āśrama, temples and communities in which to speak about Śrī Kṛṣṇa; he founded several universities, not least the Manipur University of Bhāgavata Culture; he tirelessly fought for the weakest by promoting their rights; as a scientist and scholar of Vedic texts he has written books and articles on these topics trying to mediate between faith and science; promoted new spiritual scientific disciplines such as Theobilogy and Atmalogy or Atmanology to facilitate this cultural encounter; he has published countless writings on behalf of the Bhaktivedanta Institute, of which he was Director since 1974 and designated for this task directly by Śrīla Prabhupāda from the beginning; as a Saint and as a Spiritual Master he demonstrated with his life the tangible and clear example of how to live a life as a Vaiṣṇava dedicating it entirely to his Guru and to Śrī-Śrī Radha Kṛṣṇa Candra.
In addition, he has always collaborated closely with all ISKCON leaders (GBC and confreres) by proposing and promoting cultural and spiritual encounters to always carry out their task at best. As GBC he was responsible for Manipur (his birthplace and also the birthplace of Babrhuvahana the son of Arjuna and Parvati wife of Shiva, the only State on the planet who has remained to this day still Vaiṣṇava according to Śrīla Prabhupāda. His Holiness Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja (Dr. Toudam Damodara Singh Ph.D.) is, editor and editor of the journals: Savijnanam - Scientific Exploration for a Spiritual Paradigm e, Vedanta and Science Series - Life and Origin of the Universe.
His Holiness Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja (Dr. Toudam Damodara Singh Ph.D.) is also a capable instrumentalist, singer and poet. For this reason he founded "The Ranganiketan Manipuri Cultural Arts Troupe" in order to spread Bhagavata or Vedic culture through Manipur dance, music and martial arts. The Manipur Cultural Arts Troupe has had great success around the world through 600 performances in more than 300 locations in 20 countries, spreading the philosophy of Bhagavata-Dharma.

His Divine Grace, His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja (Dr. Thoudam Damodara Singh Ph.D.) and his service at the lotus feet of His Divine Grace Śrī Śrīmad A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Śrīla Prabhupāda, the Acarya founder of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness - International Association for Kṛishṇa Consciousness)

A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada knew that the modern era was based on science. People respect scientists and scholars more, because they accept them as an authority in knowledge in many fields. Once scientists and scholars are able to recognize the importance of Vedic science and the philosophy of Krishna consciousness and follow its principles, it will be easy to convince the mass of Bhagavata culture.
With this idea, Srila Prabhupada founded in 1974 the Bhaktivedanta Institute (B.I.), the main weapon of scientific preaching of ISKCON. Srila Prabhupada, seeing in Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja, the hidden scientific talent and true dedication in serving Sri Krishna, made him Director of the Bhaktivedanta Institute from the beginning. Srila Prabhupada gave Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja full responsibility for the Bhaktivedanta Institute to achieve the goals set.
To fully fulfill Srila Prabhupada's instructions, Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja formulated a number of programs / projects to be implemented with the Bhaktivedanta Institute. The preaching of the Bhaktivedanta Institute was to be all about distributing Krishna consciousness in a scientific way. The most important programs were: traveling around the world to give public lessons in the main educational institutions and universities on Bhagavata culture; to organize international seminars, conferences and congresses where can talk about the soul, life and conscience; to present books and scientific articles on Vaishnava or Bhagavata ontology; study and synthesis between science and religion.
Srila Prabhupada in teaching Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja (1970 - 1977), also made use of the rich cultural heritage of Manipur (the birthplace of Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja and, the only Vaishnava state to have remained both in India and on the planet ; birthplace of Babhruvahana the son of Arjuna - Srimadbhagavatam 9.22.32 - and of Parvati or Durga, wife of Siva - Srimadbhagavatam, Commentary on verse 9.22.32 of AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, Bombay, 1992, pag . 631), to propagate and promote Bhagavata culture throughout the world. To satisfy the desire of his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja founded the artistic group "Ranganiketan" in 1990, in order to spread the Bhagavata Culture through dance, music and martial arts of Manipur. The Manipur Cultural Arts Troupe has had great success all over the world by spreading the philosophy of Bhagavata-Dharma.
To translate into reality the desire of Srila Prabhupada, who wanted to give new life to the ancient Vaishnava cultural tradition of Manipur and, to make Manipur an ideal Vaishnava state and guide of the whole world, Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja built the temple of Sri Sri Radha-Krishna-Candra Manimandir with the adjoining "University of Bhagavata Culture" to provide students with the opportunity to study Bhagavata culture. Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja also built schools in the northeastern states of India to offer education based on moral and spiritual values to the younger generations.
Under the guidance of Srila Prabhupada, Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja wrote various scientific books: "The Scientific Bases of Krishna Consciousness", "Theobiology", "The Scientific Bases of Reincarnation", "What is nature? What is life? "," Life and its origin "and many other books on the synthesis of science and religion.
Srila Prabhupada was very satisfied with the book "The Scientific Bases of Krishna Consciousness" and, with pride (demonstrating the excellence of his disciple and the spiritual information bestowed upon him over the years), he had many copies printed for distribution in Sankirtan. This book remains the only written example (among all his disciples), before A. C. Bhaktivedanra Swami Prabhupada left his body. Srila Prabhupada provided Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja with repeated instructions to build a model of the Universe based on information from the 5th Canto of Srimad-Bhagavatam for the construction of the Mayapur Planetarium. Srila Prabhupada subsequently instructed Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja to write a scientific commentary on the Vedantasutra.
Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja used to remember how Srila Prabhupada continually emphasized the importance of the preaching work of the Bhaktivedanta Institute, assuring him that there would never be any financial shortage for this preaching activity, the most important, since inviting scientists and Internationally renowned scholars from major universities and institutions and, presenting Krishna consciousness among academics around the world was the priority. Srila Prabhupada said: “… Therefore it aspires to the highest classes and gives them every chance, so that they can convince themselves of our philosophy and commit themselves to complete satisfaction. This will be the best contribution ”(Srila Prabhupada to Svarupa Damodara Dasa, 13 December 1972). “So we have a great mission. You are an important pillar in the mission ... Be very strong in propagating this philosophy among the cultured circle of scientists ... When you present the matter in a more scientific way, they will convince themselves "(Srila Prabhupada in Svarupa Damodara Dasa, 8 September 1974). "... Address the higher class, not the mass. Even the mass, we must not eliminate anyone, but if the best men can take care of things, the mass will follow them "(Srila Prabhupada in Svarupa Damodara Dasa, 13 December 1972). "If we can convince the ruling class to embrace our Krishna philosophy, all their efforts to change the condition of their country and the world for the better will be successful" (Srila Prabhupada in Svarupa Damodara, Mayapur, 1 March 1972).
Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja possessed the rare quality of adapting to any situation when he was traveling around the world as a scientist. Although he was a staunch sannyasi, he sometimes showed up in a jacket and tie to carry out the instruction received from Srila Prabhupada. In countries where Sannyasi monks who wore saffron-colored clothing were not particularly welcome, respected or, even worse, where they were not allowed to stay, he appeared in the guise of a polite scholar, to present the teachings of Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita. In fact, it was Srila Prabhupada himself who said: "Go with beautiful clothes, well worn, ironed and clean ... with the jacket, yes. First get dressed, then ask. (Laughter) But there must be tilaka. This is our hallmark. If you think it could be an obstacle, you can keep your hair ... Keep your hair. I have no objections. This should not be an obstacle. " So from that moment, until the day of Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja's disappearance from this world, although he had been an important member of the Krishna Consciousness Movement for a long time and although he had many disciples in different parts of the world, who they adored him and still worship him, among his friends in academies all over the world Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja remains Dr. Thoudam Damodara Singh Ph.D.
Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja has always recognized with sincere emphasis, that in his life, for a divine arrangement of the Supreme Lord, he has been blessed, by the presence of "noble" teachers who have been able to direct him during his existence. All of this had its climax with the meeting in the U.S. of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, his glorious and beloved spiritual teacher; the perfection of his life. He always considered himself insignificant, since his mission which consisted in serving the instructions of his Guru for him was his whole life. He was very kind and never made critical comments about anyone; it was personified tolerance and he never got angry at anything. All of us disciples who have had the blessing to assist him in his service to Srila Prabhupada consider us truly very fortunate and honored to have had him as Master.

Following is a brief summary of the departure of H.H. Srila Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami Sripada Maharaja from this planet

At sixty-nine, at 24:15 at the Bhaktivedanta Institute in Calcutta, on 02-10-2006, His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja, left this world, returning from Śrī-Śrī Radha Kṛṣṇa Candra. Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja, beloved spiritual son of Śrīla A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, disappeared from this mortal world during the period of the Rātrilīlā of the Aṣṭākāliya Līlā of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the day of Vijaya Daśami, which, according to this year's Pañcangam, is the most favorable day of 2006. His disappearance is occurred in Calcutta, the holy place of the appearance of his divine master Śrīla Prabhupāda. Calcutta is also the holy place chosen by His Divine Grace Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākurā Gosvāmī for his disappearance. For doctors, cardiac arrest occurred after the operations suffered following the attack that took place in Imphal, Manipur, on the day of Janmāṣṭamī, in which more than 40 devotees were injured and six people were killed, including two children. His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja, in fact, had reported a deep cut and the fracture of a bone in the left forearm, a tiny perforation in the left eardrum and a small splinter in the back. His remains will rest in a samādhi on the Rādhā-kuṇḍa, as his last wish. All of his disciples and devotees of the ISKCON movement, thank His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja for his tireless work and mission in the service of Srīla Prabhupāda and Śrī-Śrī Radha Kṛṣṇa Candra. Thanks again.

We present below the brief moments that preceded his departure from this planet.

When returning from the hospital to his apartment, His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja asked us to look in his room for the audio-cassettes of the Manipur Nata Saṅkīrtana, Rāsa-līlā. From September 10 until the day of his disappearance, the mood and behavior of His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja were many different from what he had shown up to then. Daily he listened to the tapes and accompanied them with his own singing aloud for the whole day, except for the moments when he took the medicines, took Prasāda or rested. We believed that His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja was taking it more calmly during convalescence, because his ordinary program was very active and he had never had time to listen to kīrtana tapes before. The tapes of Nata Saṅkīrtana that he listened to were kīrtana sung in the Manipuri language, which describe the pastimes of Śrī Kṛṣṇa and Śrīmati Rādhārāṇī. He said that the songs that describe the rasa-lila can absorb so that you forget completely of this world. It said: "This world is on one side, and that world is on the other side." He was always in an extremely happy mood and said he felt even more enthusiastic than ever. He also told us that he had once discussed the Rāsa-līlā Manipuri with Śrīla Prabhupāda, who highly appreciated the deep culture of Manipur.
A week before his death, His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja, in a profound state of mind, wrote a wonderful transcendental song in the Manipuri language. Then he sang it and recorded it for all the devotees. It was sung in what we disciples call: "his gopī voice." "Where's Kunjavan? Where's the Sakhīs?" By constantly weeping and saying these words again, Śrī Gaurāṅga Mahāprabhu goes in search of Śrīmati Rādhārāṇī like a madman”.
On October 1, His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja had discussed with some of his disciples from Kharagpur the next congress in Jagannātha Puri entitled: "Congress of the Indian subcontinent on Science and Spiritual Research". Around 8.30pm - 9.30pm His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja took some soup for dinner and then went to rest, as did we. About an hour after His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja got out of bed and headed for his office, where some of his assistants were sleeping. He woke up one of them and asked him to go to his room. He was extremely happy. He asked him, "What time is it?", And his assistant replied that it was 22.35. His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja then asked him to put some ice on the fingers of his left hand, where he felt heat, and on the left shoulder, where he felt a little pain. His Holiness, Srīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja then called his manipuri assistant, who was resting, to massage him. We were surprised that although His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja claimed to feel pain, he was at the same time extremely happy and joyful. A few moments after His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja gently tilted his head back and disappeared from this world. One of the assistants exclaimed: “No, Sripada! You can't do this! ". We were shaken by what was happening. We immediately called the other two assistants who were in the next room. Together we started rubbing the feet and hands of His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja, in the hope that our beloved Guru Maharaja would awaken from his samādhi. But His Holiness, Śrīla Bhaktisvarūpa Dāmodara Gosvāmī Śrīpada Mahārāja had already entered the Divine Rāsa-līlā of Śrī Kṛṣṇa.
