Deapest Condolences for Bernd Röter

"Every movement needs a driving force in the shape of a determined person - for the renewal of the Berlin Arts and Crafts Association, this person was Bernd Röter.”
(Christine Kluge-Haberkorn)

The ceramist Bernd Röter had been a member of the board of the Berlin Crafts Association already since 1971. As a young professional he recognized the need for raising interest for arts and crafts in public.

In 2003 Bernd was invited to become a honorary member in the new Professional Association for Applied Arts Berlin-Brandenburg.

He moved to Mainz in the nineties, in order to continue his dedication for arts and crafts at the Beratungsstelle für Formgebung, Chamber of Crafts Rheinland-Pfalz region, where he was supported by Marion Brose. Soon his projects became international in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.

Bernd’s active board work in the German Federal Association of Arts and Crafts led to the European presidency of the World Crafts Council. This worldwide association of artisans was in urgent need of a dynamic and knowledgeable person.

In this capacity, Bernd brought the explosiveness of the new medium Internet into focus, which could and should be used as a tool by artisans worldwide. Besides that, hands-on workshops, symposiums and presentations on fairs and exhibitions in Germany and worldwide where initiated by him with great success, in co-operation with international partner institutions.

I had the pleasure and honor to work with Bernd in many of the events, especially with the partnership projects of the Chambers of Crafts Mainz, Koblenz and Saarland in Africa and Asia. I will always be thankful to Bernd for these unforgettable experiences in working with craftspeople at their local places, for enhancing their chances on international markets.
