I was allowed to give this interview 10 years ago during my most successful time as an artist, although later I painted much more beautiful pictures :-) it's nice to read that interview again and realize that I would still answer the questions the same way.

take the time to try a meditation. you have nothing other to do - just sit and breath, sit and breath, sit and breath. close your eyes, sit and breath and so on :-) take your time and experience the concentration you need just for sitting and breathing and dont go after a thought. stop thinking - just notice your breath. this concentration is the first step for meditation.
