Sauer 404 in 9,3x62 set up for wild boar

My personal boar hammer. I named her Porka Huntress…
We have a lot of wild boars in Europe. I hunt them where I live, in other parts of Sweden, on the European mainland, and sometimes in Turkey.
I’ve shot a lot of boars in my time. Hundreds. About half the boars I hunt fall on driven hunts. Short distance (

Aimpoint Acro C-2

The new second generation Acro sight from Aimpoint features lower mounting, longer battery life and smart flip up lens covers...

Great sight!

I've been using Aimpoint sights for more than two decades and I always find it hard to imagine how they can improve on these very functional sights. Nevertheless, the always find a way to make it just a little better...

Acro is one of the smallest and definitely the most robust sight in the Aimpoint line. On the hunt they do nothing that the other recent models can't do, so if you already own a modern Aimpoint sight there is no reason to change it. If you are, however, thinking about buying a new one, you should definitely think about this little one.

I just tried it out on a three day hunting event in southern Sweden. 25 hunters got 70 pieces of game (mainly wild boar and fallow deer) in 106 shots, which is extremely good on a driven hunt. I shot a wild boar, a fallow calf, and a fox in four shots (I killed the boar twice). On the hunt, the experience was exactly the same as with my Aimpoint Micro. Over the years I have shot more than 200 animals on driven hunts with an Aimpoint on the rifle, so I am used to the system.

The new Acro C2 can be mounted lower than the first generation and it uses a larger battery (2032) giving it about 50,000 hours of operation. The new optional see-through lens caps has a brilliant function I haven't seen before. The front cover can go all the way back and lie flush with the top of the sight or it can stay in horizontal position protection the front lens from rain as a baseball cap.

Despite only two days of practical experience I feel confident in recommending this sight. Aimpoint know what they are doing...

As you can see in the photos the practical accuracy of an Aimpoint sight is better than most people imagine. The three shot group is from the zeroing session ahead of the hunt. The range was 25 meters and I was shooting from a bench. On the hunt I shot a fallow calf with a neck shot at 76 meters and a fox with a frontal shot at a slightly longer distance. This is more than sufficient for any driven hunt situation that I can imagine.

I created this page exclusively for reviews of outfitters, gear, and every other hunting-related product/service I have enjoyed so much that I recommend it to others. I will only review stuff I've actually handled, and I'll always include information on the extent of my experience with the product/service.

Note: I have tested and used A LOT of stuff over the years, and it will take many months before I can include all of it here (if ever). I'll do one review at a time. If a product that I've used is not here, it means one of three things (in order of likelihood):

1 - I haven't gotten around to writing about it yet
2 - I don't recommend the product/service
3 - I am not done with the test (some of them take years)
