A long way from home
Waking up one morning and being a long way from home looking into the coming days adventures - this is what life is about.
So far 45+ countries visited on two wheels - this is about my motorcycle experiences around the Globe.
Going home - thank you South America
Almost all driving done - today the last 250km before handing in the bike for transport back to DK. Close to 17.000km covered in 11 weeks
Final stretch on Ruta 40 and leaving Argentina for now - now in Pucon, Chile
Bye bye Argentina
Transport north - a lot of wind and strait roads - temp now in the high 20’ies so back to summer clothing. Next days in the Andes again …
As long as I could drive on the Southamerican main land - 80km south of Punta Arenas the last road ends … next days towards end of the world …
Torres del Paine and Ruta Fin del Mundo
Tough days at El Chalten and El Calafate - next step is Torres del Paine …
This is why I do it …
Marble caves at Puerto Rio Tranquillo
Not so much remaining of the Carretera Austral - but still stunning
Carretera Austral Sur - get here
Wow - 15 minutes earlier the sky was covered in grey clouds - Volcano Osorno.
Crossing into Chile again - Carretera Austral south is next … and after service on the bike, the first 9.850km is done.
Check also the blog at alwfh.dk - many more details …
Patagonia - next weeks in a very beautiful setting
Argentinian Tango on a local square in Mendoza Friday night - it really exists ❤️🙏🏻
Now in Argentina and moving south in the heat - 38 degrees C today on average … altitude is now below 1.000masl and vegetation and water is now seen. Riding the Ruta National 40, that along the road shows the distance to the end of the world, Ushuaia. I am now only 3.400km from the turning point before returning to Santiago.
Back in San Pedro de Atacama in Chile for the New Year celebrations and that with my daughter Josephine and her study-mate Mads.
4 days of relaxation and planning of the journey ahead through Argentina to Ushuaia in the far south.
Happy New Year to you all 🥳
More from Salar de Uyuni - very impressive part of our world
Salar de Uyuni - impressive and fun what water reflection can do
Isla del Sol and Isla del Luna in the Titicaca Lake - remains of old Inca culture
Copacabana in Bolivia at night and day - must visit if you’re around this corner of the world
So a little more on the journey - now in high altitude close to the Bolivian Altiplano over 4.000 masl.
And it didn’t take long to break that ”old” record - just 22 hours later at the Laguna Miscanti I passed 4.232 masl and didn’t pass out - even though air is quite thin up here.
This area holds some of Chile’s largest salt flats with pink flamingos eating the smallest “scrimp” I’ve ever seen - the carotenoids in these metabolises into the the pink feathers.
3.422 masl is the highest I’ve ridden so far - but higher I go the following weeks 😊 roads are long and straight … and I need to clean my windscreen.
Heading north into the Atacama region - that is dessert as long as you can imagine and then some. Both inland and coastal regions are super dry but varying some so the experience do chance with the miles of road passed.
In some days I will enter San Pedro de Atacama, where I will stay for a few days exploring the sights.
So on the road again - what a lovely feeling and song. Slowly proceeding up north through the slimmest part of Chile targeting Peru in the holidays. If I’m lucky (and skilled) I will meet with my youngest daughter somewhere around Cusco for a few days.
First two days up Ruta del Mar and Ruta de las Estrellas and tonight a private tour of three observatories watching the stars, after a good trecking of the lower Andes mountains.
Not a Puch Maxi … here I go
So days go by and now at day 4 in Chile - still waiting for the bike - read the long story on alwfh.dk
Here some pics from the last days - have to say that weather and vacation style starts to grow on me …
