Stamping out persistent sexism from academia and a more neutral workspace:

The recently released report "Sexism and Career Progression at Danish Universities" by the Danish Center for Social Science Research VIVE – Det Nationale Forsknings og Analysecenter for Velfærd, has a stark and concerning finding: experiences of sexism are widespread across Danish universities and have a significant impact on career progression.

In a recent publication by the Danish Association of Masters and PhDs (DM - fagforening), we highlighted similar concerns, referencing our joint PhD survey conducted last year. The results were stark: one in three female PhD students reported experiencing discrimination—a trend that is not only alarming but calls for immediate action.

The results from the joint survey conducted in 2023 further corroborate these findings, demonstrating that female PhD students face discrimination far more frequently than their male counterparts. This not only affects their current academic engagements but also casts long shadows over their career prospects.

At PAND, we are committed to addressing these challenges head-on. We stand for a scholarly community where all members, irrespective of their gender, can thrive without barriers. These findings call for prompt concrete, actionable changes within our institutions.

Check these quotes from the survey respondents 👇 and stay tuned to our platforms for updates on how we are working to combat sexism in academia.
